Looks like some folks are in the news for letting rats attack their baby and eat off her toes. Took place in Ohio. I remember a story{way back} in NY about rats getting into a crib and killing a baby.

What is a matter with people? If they don't want the baby then give her to someone that does. How cruel can the human race be, sad sad sad!!!!!

Comments:

A SIX-WEEK-OLD girl has lost two toes after she was repeatedly attacked by rats.
Doctors at Nationwide Childrenç—´ Hospital in Ohio found the infant had suffered serious injuries to her left foot and back as well as numerous bite marks to other parts of her body.

Police said her injuries appeared to have happened over a long period of time and with her injuries leaving prosecutors é›»eeply disturbed?

Two men and a woman have now face child endangerment charges. The mother has not been charged.

Authorities are expected to seek permanent custody of the infant, who lived in the mobile home with her 17-year-old mother and her boyfriend.

Lock them up for manslaughter. This is thoroughly disgusting that someone could live in such conditions let alone try to raise kids. THe fact that its apparently been going on for some time shows how little regard they had for their kids, or their own welfare.

I could understand a rat attacking a child, but wouldn't the baby have cried? And if so, wouldn't that have awakened the parents? As with many news stories, there's much we don't know.

My parents moved from Ardmore, OK, to Baltimore, MD, in 1940 when I was just a baby. Of course, I don't remember anything about it, but they rented an apartment and said they found Baltimore had the biggest rats they'd ever seen. They said one night they found a rat big enough that it was standing with its hind feet on the floor, front feet on the side of the baby bed, looking through the slats at me, so they not only killed rats, but kept the baby bed right next to their bed at night.

Needless to say, Oklahoma farm folks did not like Baltimore and were glad to return to Oklahoma before long.:D

There were actually three adults in the home when it happened. I have no idea why the 17 yr old Mother has not been charged.

Columbus Dispatch article

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Three adults have been charged with child endangering after authorities discovered that a 6-week-old girl who lived with them in a Pike County mobile home had lost two toes to what appear to be rat bites. The infant, Leann Lowe, was in stable condition yesterday at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, authorities said.
Pike County deputies have charged Todd C. Trent, 18; Joseph Gunter, 33; and Tina Gunter, 29, with child endangering.
Trent also was charged yesterday with obstructing official business and tampering with evidence. He was being held in the Ross County jail in Chillicothe.
Doctors said the child's injuries apparently occurred over an extended period, said Pike County Sheriff Richard Henderson. The infant's left foot and back were badly injured, and she had bite marks from what appeared to be rats on other parts of her body, Henderson said.
Trent lived in the Red Bridge Road mobile home, west of Piketon, with the baby and her 17-year-old mother, said Pike County Prosecutor Rob Junk. Trent is not the infant's father, Junk said.
A grandparent of the child told WBNS-TV (Channel 10) that Joseph and Tina Gunter also lived in the trailer but were not related to the infant. The mobile home belongs to the 17-year-old mother's aunt, the station reported.
The mother has not been charged, but investigators said additional arrests are possible.
"Every adult in that house is being looked at," Junk said. The child's wounds indicate that adults knew she was being injured and did little or nothing to protect her, he said.
Authorities also seized two dogs from the mobile home -- a Chihuahua and a boxer mix, Junk said. They are investigating whether they might have bitten the child.
Authorities learned of the girl's injuries early Sunday from an anonymous tipster and then went to the mobile home about 60 miles south of Columbus.
Reporter Glenn McEntyre of WBNS-TV (Channel 10) contributed to this story.

Silly wabbit, that's why we have the department of social services.

Termination of Parental rights. Research it. You will be amazed.

I've always said the Chihuahua is a dangerous breed of dog. I wonder why people would own such a dangerous dog? Take them away from the old lady watching TV and they can't be trusted!

Bird; I know we've disagreed on other things but I'd say we feel the same on this issue. Inspector507 and Jimmyj have helped fill in some of the blanks. If these losers were letting this happen over a period of time I think the best justice for them is the death penalty.

I had to run tractor trailer into NY city a lot back in the 90's and those rats down there were huge{small/medium sized dog}
