Sad Story To Tell

A friend of mine was killed today when his tractor rolled over and pinned him. The particulars were: He and his wife had a side business doing landscaping work. They were landscaping a yard. He had a trailer full of white rock that he was taking down a steep hill when the weight of the trailer was too much and started pushing the tractor down hill. His tractor had a ROPS but he didn't have his seat belt fastened. The tractor overturned and he was pinned by the ROPS. he had massive head injuries. He was helicoptered to the hospital but died 13 hours later while in surgery. His wife witnessed the accident. Please, people, don't make excuses why you don't wear seat belts. Play it safe. It may be your life that you lose.

Sorry to hear that sad news.

Besides the seat belt, please don't take heavy trailer loads down steep hills. Need trailer brakes to do such things. Many a tractor is pushed down a hill with a load of something behind, such as hay bales, corn, or other such loads. Then when a brake is applied and one wheel stops, and the other wheel starts spinning twice as fast forward, the tractor gets cornerwise real fast and flipped over. But too much load cannot be stopped with both brakes locked oftentimes.
Gotta be smart and be safe.

Sorry to hear about the accident and loss of your friend.... thanks for the post... a needed reminder that safety is a must, even when exhausted, hot and in a hurry.... that is a note to myself to remember.
