Thanks for the info. The switch is mechanical, when you press the brake it allows the switch mechanism to open. I will trace the wires back from the terminal to see where it goes...its been so cold so hopefully it will warm up soon so I can give it a good look. Will keep you posted.
Also, I did determine the sensor on the bell housing was my tach. It is not working...I unplugged it just to see if there were any changes but nothing.
Regarding your tach pickup. If you unscrew it and take it out, you will see it is an enclosed magnet. It can get very dirty and if you see little metal chips etc stuck to the end,, it will need cleaning. Wash it with brake cleaner and get everything of. Replace it into the threaded hole and screw it in until it just touches the flywheel. Then back it about half a turn and lock it in position - this should give you the approximate clearance you need. To confirm it is not hitting anything, bar the engine over by hand and feel for any impact. This should give you the setting for the pickup to work. Also look for any disconnected wires on the tacho. When you are sure the flywheel doesn't meet the pickup, try running the engine. if it doesn't work then maybe a new sender is required (pickup). They are not expensive, but try the cheap fixes first.
