On my TC18, instead of getting dirty and properly adusting the safety switch contacts, I've just gotten into the habit of banging back on the PTO lever to make sure it's "homed in" before trying to start the tractor. It used to work OK; I'm probably not making it any better by whacking it, but being basically a procrasinator I'll wait until it really needs to be fixed before diging into it.

Thanks to all the good suggestions by the TBN family members, I was able to fix the problem by adjusting the switch and repositioning it. Hi ! I just read your posts and I am having a starting problem with my brand new NH TN65D. I am having trouble getting the starter switch to turn with the key. Everything is in neutral, the emergency brake is on, and the PTO is off etc. I have to play with the switch, jiggle the gear levers, and mess with the controls for 10 to 15 minutes before it will free up. The dealer said he ordered a new ignition switch for me, but I am not sure thats the problem. All the safety interlocks and connections are a nightmare to try to figure out. A brand new tractor shouldn't have this problem. Remember when quality control was important to the manufactures? I guess when the price goes up, everything else goes down.

Does the manual have a list of the safety switches.
It took me 10 minutes to start my 2002 NH 7610s when they dropped it off. I was looking at everything.. pto.. clutch.. gearshift.. etc.. then I found it.. the RANGE selector ( H-N-L ) has to be in neutral to start.. though the main tranyy doesn't have to be.. go figure..

That %&**#$$ connector has come undone I don't know how many times while grubbing out my woods. I have spent more time on my back under my TC29D than I care to remember.
Started to "bypass" the switch, but thought better of it. Very poor design.
