I have a question for those who have bought tractors or made trades for tractors in Ohio. Today I took delivery on a John Deere 455 garden tractor. I traded in my JD 425 AWS. While going through the paper
work tonight I noticed that I was charged sales tax on the total price, on the list price at that, trade in not deducted. Is this how sales tax is supposed to be charged in Ohio?
In Indiana where I live sales tax is figured on the cash difference you pay.
Thanks

Chris in IN,

Do Ohio and Indiana have an agreement that sale taxes can be collected by either residents? If I buy a book from Amazon.com, here in NY, from Amazon in California, I don't pay sales tax.

I would look into this. My guess is that you guys OH and IN are falling into the wisdom of "Government sits on a pedestal" that liberal states such as my state of NY and Mass. have been afflicted with for the last several decades.

Maybe you guys should enact a law that doubles the Lottery stakes in IN to counteract this atrocity.

Chris--

With respect to motor vehicles, Ohio sales tax is based on the value net of any trade-in. Maybe the rule is different because tractors are not titled--I bought my tractor in Kentucky, had no trade-in, and am tax-exempt anyway, so I'm not sure; but I'd call the dealer to verify.
