Sales tax on tractors

Sure, lots of people have done it, but it's normally illegal....

Well, ya, but so is driving 5 mph over the speed limit. :D Personally, I wouldn't think twice about buying out of state to save on sales tax, and I wouldn't worry about it, but that's just me and of course everyone can make their own decision.

I don't think most people lump traffic violations in the same category as tax evasion, but you're right, everybody can make their own decision.

No sales tax here in Mo on Ag equipment.

I'm pretty sure Mass taxes you just for thinking about buying out of state.

MA is pretty aggressive about enforcing sales tax. I don't know how it works with tractors, but many items if they are delivered to you 'in state' you get taxed on them (the store has to collect it), even if you are buying in NH. If you pick it up you are on your own to pay taxes. Pretty crazy! I'm just happy we don't have a tractor excise tax yet!

Hopefully Duval does not know what a tractor is. If he finds out, he will find a way to tax it and keep those EBT cards rolling

Does the honor system work the opposite? Meaning If I were to buy 'stuff' in Mass and then write them and tell them I took it home to NH are they going to send the tax back?:laughing::laughing::laughing:

When i purchased my tractor, i had to pay Idaho sales tax even though i purchased it in Wash state. Idaho = 6%, wash state = 8.5%. I could have gone to Montana to get one with 0% sales tax, but the 3 dealers i contacted there all were selling for alot more money, so the savings was not there. Also i was warned by dealer that most states send letter to dealers in other states wanting info on out of state sales. Apparently one Kioti dealer in Idaho didnt collect tax on tractor sales to non ag people, and the state ended up going after him. he lost his dealership also over this. The dealer i bought from told me he gets this letter once a year from Boise Idaho, and he fills it out. He doesnt want to be held liable for any uncollected taxes. I paid my 6% and bitched about it to everyone. I even wrote Boise tax commission and complained. I got a letter that stated all non-ag tractors, even used, are susceptible to sales tax. their definition of ag use included a 51% of income from the farm. For people that claim farm use and are found out not to have a farm, the fines far outshine the taxes. Isnt that always the way.
