I do always try to support local... So assuming my local Maine dealer will give me good pricing I will probably end up buying here and give Maine the extra $1300 that they/I/We deserve.

My purchases for the farm are ag use so I don't pay sales tax on it (Ohio). In exchange for building two fulfillment centers and a data center or two in Ohio, Amazon agreed with the state to start collecting state sales tax.

Exact same thing happened here. Once they put in the brick and mortar.....in this case sheet metal and steel purlins, they were state residents and all sales were "sales" taxed.

For $1300, I would most definitely skip the "Pine Tree state", and go for the "Granite state" instead.

Nope!
Only time I ever lived in Me. was in room 213 of Heart Hall at the U. of M. in Orono, and THAT was a LONG time ago!

The penalties for skipping out on Use Tax are pretty severe on top of the original tax. I bought a tractor out of state for a substantial savings in price. When I did my taxes I had to fess up that I owed a Use Tax and they clipped me so much extra I was surprised. I believe I had to pay something like 10 percent and then the fine on top of that.

If I would have waited a couple years just to see what would have happened, the fine and extra interest would have doubled the sales tax.

That doesnt sound like fun. You must have paid with a personal check or financed which was the paper trail that led them to you?

Forty-five states have a use tax. About 1.6 percent of the taxpayers in those 45 states actually pay the use tax. .. From a NPR article

This is a free country right? Free to travel anywhere you want. Therefore a legal transaction in any state with or without a sales tax should be of no concern of your state. Would your state want sales tax if you made a purchase in a state that does have a sales tax, it's the same thing the way I see it.

They only care when the product crosses state lines and stays...
