I finally got to try out the salt/dirt/seed spreader a couple weeks ago. I could not get it to work at all with the highway department dirt/salt mixture. The mixture would just sit at the bottom without falling down to the rotor that spreads it. It I jerked the implement up and down real quick I could get a small amount to fall onto the rotor. I tried everything and yes I did open the bottom valve /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I switched to plain old salt and the thing worked great. I picked up about 10 pounds of salt on the way home from work at a gas station just to see how it would work. 10 pounds did about 2/3 of my 1,000 foot driveway. I was really impressed- and the best thing about it is / now I don't have to shovel the dirt / salt mixture on my truck at the highway department and back off at home- I can just pour in the salt from the bag. I got to try out the snow plow attachment today for a few hours because we got the big storm up here in upstate NY. I would guess we only got about 10-12 inches but the drifts made to depth vary from 0 to about 2 feet in some spots. I learned a lot about how to use the plow effectively, but I think I will save it for another post.

Best Regards,

Steve
