Salvage or used parts for Massey?

Well, I finally got the front driveshaft pulled out of the front axle only to find out that to replace it is going to be $550!!

Is there any salvage dealers out there or any other place that I may be able to get a used part or at least cheaper?

Before I would pay that, I would take it to a machine shop to see if they could make a new one.
Did you happen to get the part number for the shaft?

The part number is 3709668M91. Its for the front drive shaft assembly plus the gears that go in the axle. I don't really need the gears, but I guess it only comes together as a kit. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Jack's Small Engines an on-line Massey parts source lists the parts at $450.34. That still isn't to good. Did your partsman tell you that you couldn't get the shaft by itself?

I'd agree with Jerry and take it to a machine or driveshaft shop. I have a driveshaft shop locally in my area that has made driveshafts for me in the past. Mostly for cars though but still cheaper than a factory one.
