Same transfer tank for Diesel and Gasoline?

/ Same transfer tank for Diesel and Gasoline? #21
Personally, I think a diesel engine would like trace amounts of gasoline better than a gasoline engine would like trace amounts of diesel...so fill the gas tank first.

I wouldn't hesitate to put <12oz of diesel fuel in the gas tank of my Jeep. Might ping a little. On that same note, old low compression flathead spark igition Briggs and Stratton engines are often able to run on diesel fuel entirely after they have warmed up on gas. Smokes like a chimney but it runs. B&S even sells factory versions in other countries that run from kerosene. (spark ignition)

Now, if I was driving a 2011 BMW or something, it might be a little more picky....

Now that I think about it, many of the available fuel system cleaners for gas engines use a light solvent like kerosene as a carrier...and people happily add a whole bottle to the tank. Seafoam, for example, is mostly Naptha and a light oil. The directions tell you to add 16oz of it to your tank...

Not to be picky, but by definition gasoline is flammable, diesel is combustible. Flammable liquids have a flash point below 100*F, and combustible liquids have a flash point of 100*F or higher. Per OHSA 1910.106

From Wikipedia :

Fuel...........Flash point.....Autoignition temperature
Ethanol...........55°F...................689°F
Gasoline........-45°F...................495°F
Diesel...........143°F...................410°F
Jet fuel..........140°F .................410°F
Kerosene.....100-162°F..............428°F
Vegetable oil.. 620°F..(canola)
Biodiesel......>266°F

what problems might i encounter if i start using a used diesel transfer tank for gas on a permanent basis? do i have to change filters or any lines?
I never saw an answer on the pump sparking question - should i replace the pump as well?

many years ago i installed an old (dry) fuel tank from a diesel car (maybe an Isuzu?) i got from a junk yard, into a gas vehicle- a Nissan pickup- as an aux tank. it did smoke a little on the first tank, but after that it was fine. can i expect the same result with a diesel transfer tank?

thanks
jg

I think filters may be different , in the size tollerances they have. Id ask at carquest or napa on that. As well as call the pump manufacturer if your pump is rated for gas. That is all id be worried about.
