Samsung LCD TV

I just bought and installed a new Samsung 40" LCD HDTV, when I looked at the ID tag on the TV to get the info to register for warranty, I was surprised to see this Korean brand TV was manufactured in Mexico. Just assumed it was made in Korea.

It was probably assembled in Mexico from Asian parts. I don't think there is much flat screen manufacturing capability in Mexico. That requires a high tech plant. It could say made in Mexico if that is where the final assembly and crating was done.

I love it. I have Directv, Best Buy was offering a $150 off the TV with purchase of a new HD Directv box ($99). The HD channels are amazing for crispness and clarity. I chose LCD over plasma because of lighter weight, cooler operating temperature, 30% lower power consumption and longer display life. Color clarity and quality was virtually identical to plasma. The deciding factor for the LCD was the matte or nonglare screen. Prices were very close as well.

I used the same deal at Best Buy last weekend to buy a Sony 40" LCD with a new HD receiver, the nonglare screen was a factor for me as well. I l also like the placement of the speakers on the Sony as this one is going to be mounted in a cabinet at the foot of the bed. You can't beat a hocky game in HD!

did you guys research the DLP vs LCD, and make your choice from there? I read somewhere the DLP was the best of plasma or LCD..

There are good reasons to buy plasma, LCD and DLP - variables include: viewing distance, viewing angle, proximity to windows, power consumption, wall-mounting or not, etc, etc.

In my case I went with LCD (Samsung LN-S4695) because my family room has windows on three sides and the TV is on the 4th side. So afternoon football viewing would be impossible with Plasma (too much glare and too lazy to shut all the blinds). DLP was out because the distance from the comfy seats was not enough and I wanted to wall-mount.

Talk to multiple sales people to get various opinions. Some of the big box stores do not pay commission so they don't try to force you into a bad choice, but on the other hand many of the sales associates are not very knowledgeable.

Also don't forget about the 30-day price match that most big stores have. If you find the same item on sale for less at the same or any other local store most places will refund the difference (Sears, CC, BB, etc)

I looked at DLP, the intial purchase price was lower, but DLP takes more space, and requires replacement of the projection bulbs every 2-3 years, I checked online pricing and the bulbs ranged from $200-450, depending on brand. The bulbs for the "value" brands were more expensive than the name brands. Plasma TV's are based on much the same principal as neon lighting, and are more fragile to handle. My sales person knew the products very well, gave me the positives and negatives of each technology.

I have an old Zenith projection, 50",, Sad thing is, the picture is fine,, No sound on half the channels and every week I lose one or two more. I've looked, called, till blue in the face and cannot find a repair outfit that can fix or even simply look at this.. I figure another month and there will be no sound regardless of channel selection. So, I started reading a little bit, usually on BB/CC and box store pages. What type TV do you need? None mentioned replacing bulbs. Of course they won', there wouldn't be any sold. The plasma I know is out,,, The room we use is avg I guess at 25 X 20 in size, so 50 -55 inch screen is ideal,... An LCD would work with less problems than DLP? SO far I like the Sony wega 1080p sxrd whatever this is,,..
