Sand and salt

I am looking to buy a sand & salt spreader that I can mount on the back of my RTV900. I don't want to mount it in the receiver hitch if I can bed or tailgate hang it. Salted sand is heavy and wet . I need to use this on my driveway. The guy that I had doing it retired or moved on.

Curtis makes a gas powered 1/3 yard spreader for the RTV, Be sure not to get electric because they are tough on the alternator and battery.

Thanks guys. I don't need one as big as Flyingn put on his RTV. Also I am looking at what Curtis has to offer. I only got to do 1/8 mile and only do it about 4 times a year. I got a tow behind but the sand will not fall thur the opening. Just to dang wet.

What about using a cone (fertilizer spreader) for your driveway?

I just got a Sitrex 300 for just the purpose you are describing... my dealer said a lot of folks use for sanding & salting... the manual even has an optional "salt shield" pictured.

You do need to keep your sand dry to prevent freezing clumps from busting up the agitator, so keep it under a tarp.

Then you have an implement for way less than a sander, plus you have capability for seeding, fertilizing, lime, etc. after the snow is gone... plus that much more time on the tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have a small tow behind that I got from northern tool a few years ago. Paid over 200 bucks for it. First time out all the rubber drive wheel would do is slide. I then made a steel wheel and put sheet metal screws into so as to bite into the ice, but the opening to the spinner plate is so small that the wet sand will not flow thru. There is enough viberations from the steel wheel that is should shake the sand thru but it don't . I will just keep looking and I will find something.
