It is your hot water heater. The anode reacts with something in your water - I have it too, but can't remeber what the mineral is - maganese maybe? Anyhow, you can replace the anode with something else that won't react. Also, flush your hot water heater - this should be done regularly anyway, but most folks don't. Whatever is stinky seems to collect on the bottom and can be douched out - at least my conditions improve after I flush my WH. Connect a hose to the drain on the bottom and blast it out for 5 minutes or so. I also like to put bleach in my filter housing, run that into the water heater, then flush it out after sitting an hour or so - in that case, make sure the water is bleach-free before stopping. Also, if it's electric, turn it off before flushing - the cold running water can cause an overload.
