Yup; 'nuther thing to do - watch their face when you're teachin' 'em to drive, and you yell "TEN AND TWO!!!"
I actually SAW yard sticks in Lowes last week - hardware/lumber stores used to GIVE 'em away, these were around $1.99 IIRC... Steve
Oh, for bigger areas I cheat - I have two Lufkin 100' STEEL tapes - I set one corner, measure the long side and set second corner (stakes) - making sure THAT side is parallel to whatever I want it to be - Then, pythagoras and Casio (scientific model) take over. Next building's gonna be 48 x 60 x 14' eave, with 2 high-cube containers along one side (it's in my container weld shop thread, somewhere around post#400, maybe)
Soo, hook one tape on first stake and run out 48' in APPROXIMATELY square direction; lay that tape down.
Hook the OTHER tape on OTHER end of the LONG side, then
Casio - 48 squared, memory +; 60 squared, memory +, recall memory, SQRT - that's the diagonal. (76.83)
Run the second tape diagonally toward the outer end of the first tape, cross the two tapes at 48' and 76.83 FEET (AKA 76' 10.05") - place 3rd stake. 4th stake (using 2 tapes again) walk out 48' with one, 60' with other - if it looks WRONG, change which tape's which
I call that the "Pythasio" method
