You should have ate the sardines before going to the dentist!
I don't know why I wasn't thinking well enough to realize the empty can would do the job instead of wasting good sardines,:ashamed: but many years ago, I used sardines to trap some skunks and more recently to trap a stray cat. It's the best bait I know of for that purpose.
Sardines with saltines!
I love sardines, couldn't think of life without them ! Grill them on the barbecue outside because of the smell with a touch of olive oil and herbs.
Fisherman in Czech fry small fish breaded in hot oil. The name for it is grundle and they taste great with just salt, freshly made.
Apparently the same word in English means something else, didn't know that.![]()

I've read that during the winter months smelts come in from the sea and run up the rivers of Maine. Maybe some Mainers can give up some recipes???
I have always read that emergency supplies should be bad enough that no one would eat them willingly and just barely good enough that they can be eaten in a survival situation.
Keeps them available for when they are really needed.
For many years, I worked as the engineer on a logging truck running tests on drilled wells... great and interesting job, but the problem was that I never knew how long I'd be on a well... maybe a few hours, maybe as much as 24-hours... I quickly learned to keep food on board that would not spoil or have to be refridgerated ... the answer was a box of crackers, a jar of peanut butter and several cans of sardines. Yup, people turned up their noses but when you are hungry, they were great..
and word has it they make you more virile..
Those look pretty good ...did you dip them in something before they went on the grill? Is it a main course? What are you having with them?
It's a main course, the number varying with the size of the fish, generally with rice and a sauce made of melted butter and mustard. Before I put them on the grill, my wife puts a little olive oil and a generous helping of Mediterranian herbs on them. This will burn but leave a delicious flavour.
O.K. guys. It was requested that I use my pencil eraser and clean up some school boy talk that I was just as guilty of participating in as anyone else. Got to remember to keep it family friendly.![]()
OK ..MossRoad...picture this then:
A man and a woman sitting in seperate bathtubs on the beach at sunset.. some soft music playing in the background ...sharing a can of sardines.
We'll leave the rest of what happens to the imagination.![]()
