Ok i recently got a really nice Satoh Beaver 4x4 S370D you know the drill.

So at first i was fretting over oil filter availability since the one on there had japanese Writing

Come to find out the local parts house has a Wix 51334 IIRC same filter a chevy luv or S10 with a Inline 4 uses

So i bought it for 7 some odd dollars changed the oil Then went to autozone had the number crossed and got a 3.79 Fram for the next time

Air Filter Parts House Had in stock Wix # 46270 17$ Once again bought it locally autozone can get it for 7$ Fram # CAK531

I Had The Fuel Filter That Wix And the local parts house listed Orderd In It arrived but was a metal inline with 3/8 inlet outlet Wix # 33270 But Wrong Filter And Nearly 10$

Not a plastic inlet outlets on the side with bleed screws and see through like is on there

I could get a 3$ clear inline with 1/4 in out but i wanted to keep it somewhat original and retain bleed screws

So doenst seem i can get that domestically

Have been thinking of converting to a canister style i can get an entire setup for 20$ With a sediment bowl/water seperator

Something like this but with the clear bottom i have since lost the site i saw the 20 dollar setup on this one is 38 also from jegs but i would prefer the clear based one i know it takes cheaper filters too

I assume the setup like im talking about would work fine

Now Onto The Block Heater I have Read Others Talk About it and one post said to use a 45mm Frost plug heater

But i have heard that these engines use a 40mm Plug Does anyone know for sure?

Cause if 40mm is the correct size then bam 24.99 here ya go

JEGS 51129 - JEGS Core Plug Block Heaters - JEGS

They also advertise a 35mm for use with mitsubishi engines maybe this will work for other motors

JEGS 51128 - JEGS Core Plug Block Heaters - JEGS

I havent had my freeze plug out to measure it not even sure if i could read a mic in Metric lol

Let me know it would be great if someone has a new freeze plug to measure or knows for sure

Wild West,
I too have a 370D and really like it. They are great work horse for thier size.

Have you tried cold start and know you need the block heater?
It was 7 here yesterday and with a 30 second glow pug pre heat mine blew alot of black smoke for a few minutes while warming up but started on the first key turn. I run Synthetic Rotella 5W40 and that has been the biggest cold start improvment. With Dino oil other equipment I own used to take 2 or even 3 glowplug preheats but switching to Synthetic they all started easier and usually with 1 glowplug preheat.

A word on the Fram oil filter. I would recomend against Fram oil filters especially on an older diesel like we have. There is alot less filter media and the drainback valve in these filters seals against cardboard and does not seal very well. They can allow dirty oil to drain back to the pan. In the oil, Fuel & Lubricants section of this board there is a thread about oil filters and a link to a study where many leading oil filters are disected. I can't find it to link right now but will look later. It will really change your mind about Fram when you see how many other brands of oil filters are so simularly well made and then you see how cheaply Fram are made.

Mundy

I just wanted the block heater for the aspect of getting things warmed up it hasnt gotten below 20 here and it takes maybe two tries to get mine started i just figured it would be nice to have it i had to pull something out in the middle of a cold night etc.

On the fram i have heard that before i put one on my truck on its last oil change

Friend of mine swears his engine started ticking when they put on a fram he said he changed it and it quit.

Maybe ill get a supertech or a delco cross i was just looking to not have to give 7 dollars for a tiny oil filter.

No doubt, they will start easier with a heater but to leave it plugged in all the time would be expensive and for me to remember to plug it in several hours before I need it would not happen. I have had equipment that came with heaters in the past but unless I need it I am not going out of my way to install one.

I did not intend to start an oil filter discussion but rather just pass on the info. I had used Fram filters for many years. They are inexpensive and available everywhere. I was amazed when I read that study. So now I pass that on any time I hear someone speak of switching to Fram to save $2 to $5 per change. That way they can read and come to their own conclusion.

Glad to hear your enjoying your new tractor.

Mundy

Yeah i had read that study off a truck forum i used to belong to.

Its like anything one guy will swear Rotella t tears his engine up and the next will talk about how he got 350 thousand off of it etc.

I am mainly aiming to provide people with some common part numbers for the oil and air filter and find out what mm size the freeze plug is.

But any responses are apreciated.

I won't use Fram just because I tried them on my Jeep ( 2000 TJ inline 6). I used them for four oil changes so I could get a good conclusion and every filter leaked...not bad but every time I removed it there was a line of oil on the bottom side of the filter.

This was last year.

I use Wix.

If the engine is a K3C and the frost plug is above the oil filter then the plug is 45mm according to my book (and the heater I installed last month).

I was told by a person who sells parts for these tractors its 40mm i guess i read your post ? thats where i heard the 45mm i was hoping for the 40mm cause it was cheaper than the napa pn you listed

My local napa suggested a 75$ inline hose setup but i doubt i have the room

How long do you have to plug it in before its ready?

took me three or four tries to get it started earlier and it wasnt that cold around 40 i guess
