If your heating with wood purely to safe money you're probably not coming out ahead. It's already been well gone over that people enjoy the wood heat, enjoy cutting wood, need the exercise, or need to clean up fallen trees anyway. Same logic as owning a tractor for most people.

And as I have stated.....my reason for selling wood.....

I get all the benefits of cutting it. Enjoyment, cleaning up fallen trees or fencerows, exercise, etc. But none of the hassle of actually burning it in the house. I trade it for cash to buy my heat.

The junk, punky, unsellable wood....that keeps my shop warm.

Yep. I figure that I break about even when all the expenses are figured. The OP was so far out in left field on that cost of 'wooding'.
1. Cost of truck, most people will already have a truck. Even if they buy one the cost must be amortized over the years of use. Iguess the way teh OP figures coses you go waaayyy in the hole the first year but then have no expenses forever after exept for routine fuel, oil and maintenance. .

It' official... Burn Ban in effect. No wood/solid fuel burning through Christmas.

First violation $100 fine and escalate from there... overnight temps in the 20's...

It can be very costly heating with wood!

I'm in a zone subject to those bans. The rule is "No burning unless it is your only source of heat". I don't think there are very many houses anymore without some kind of central heat.

Gone our the days when President Carter said wood is America's renewable resource and offered a tax credit for installing wood heat...

Wood burning is almost public enemy number one here with Bill Boards and Media Spots on how to anonymously turn in your neighbor... just the way it is.

Building a new home... no way to install a wood burner.

Have wood as your only source of heat... it must be registered with the 9 county Air Resources Board and subject to review.

Similar to some degree in the Olympia WA area... thankfully... back when power was out for a week with below freezing daily high temps several years back the house there had two wood burning stoves...

Most of us where I live burn wood, but Olympia is a little greener than here. I hope it stays that way. No surprise about CA.
