Now it's 100 HP again. Dayum politicians.

Well, it sounds like only those above 100 are mandated to be tested, but if it's not, then the purchaser cannot claim sales and use tax exemption.

"(2) A person may obtain a permit to sell or dispose of a current tractor model of
less than one hundred horsepower by meeting the permit requirements of sections
2-2701 to 2-2711. A purchaser of a current tractor model is not eligible to claim the
exemption from sales and use tax for agricultural machinery and equipment under
section 77-2704.36 unless the current tractor model has been permitted for sale
pursuant to sections 2-2701 to 2-2711."

Plus, every time Mahindra changed something, it would require retesting of that model at a cost of around $100k. Not worth it.

Well glory be, for once someone is worse off than me living in a state other than California. I know it isn't much but it's something. While I've never had any notions of moving to Nebraska now I can use this as an logical excuse.
How did something like this ever happen in a red state?

So essentially only 2 models of Mahindra tractors would require testing as they are the only ones over 100 hp. All of the other models would be exempt so there really isn't any reason for there not to be a Mahindra dealer in Nebraska. I just dont' see a demand for Mahindra in this reagion, especially for farming applications. Seems to be marketed as more of a value CUT.

I'm sure farmers love to have actual data from a 3rd party to confirm manufacturers claims. I know I sure like going to tractor data to look information up. The fuel consumption data is really interesting IMO.

When you look at the dealer networks for Mahindra it becomes really obvious that although some of the largest models might be useful for farming that they are not necessarily marketed the same way other manufacturers such as JD, Massey, New Holland, etc.. by large agricultural dealers who carry and service a full like of agricultural implements.

It's not just in the High Plains. Looking at the dealers in Connecticut on their page and Klems Tractors seems to be the main dealer for that reagion. Klems carries a wide variety from Cub Cadet to New Holland. That makes it pretty clear that the NEw Holland tractors are likely sold for farming and the Mahindra are a tweener between the Cub Cadet line with only Mahindra CUT's listed on thier website.
Tractors & Equipment, Outdoor Power Tools, Service & Repair, Apparel, Boots & Shoes, Dog and Cat Food, Pet Toys, Hardware Store, Rental Shop, and Auto Parts in Spencer Ma 1562.

Next closest dealer is New England Tractor
NEW ENGLAND TRACTOR a division of Johnson Automotive Inc.
The only attachments they list on thier website are beefco and sundown which do have a few farming implements but not a likely brand that most farmers would be looking at.

Next dealer is ellington agway.
Power Equipment | Ellington Agway
This appears to be more of a Tractor Supply, Atwoods, Bomgaars, etc type of farm and ranch store with feed and lots of animal and garden products. Certainly not a place where most farmers woudl go to buy a tractor.

I guess it seems that although the largest models are capable for small farming applications its does not appear that Mahindra is being marketed as a farm tractor in New England or the High Plains, rather a value minded CUT sold from a wide variety of stores from marine and atv powersports delaers to farm and ranch stores.

Perhaps you're confused. The region you looked up was Nebraska, Colorado and where ever when the subject area was New Hampshire. YOU injected Nebraska. That's all I'm saying. If you're going to counter a statement, base it on facts.

How can you say Mahindra is NOT replacing JD anywhere for that matter? I don't know one way or the other and really don't care. Not all farmers need a 1,000hp tractor. Mahindra is the #1 seller in the US so somebody is buying them. I wouldn't because I don't like the design, among other things.

Any way, I'm done. :drink:

The only one confused here is you. You can't seem to handle this conversation for some reason. Guess you have something against Nebraska but there is no reason for all the complaining and derailing the thread talking about how you dont' care. Obviously you do that's why you keep whining about Nebraska It certainly reasonable to look at the dealer network of a tractor line in more than 1 area to see how it is being marketed. You dont' get to make the rules of what we can talk about so please stop to control what is being said by derailing the thread with whining and talk of chinese eggs.

I did base my statements on facts. I looked up the dealers in the high plains region as well as looking at what they carry. Thought it was strange that there wasn't a dealer in Nebraska. I also took the time to look up dealers in New England as well. Did you do any research? Its obvious that you have some issue with Nebraska, get over it.

I dont' know any farmers with a 1,000 HP tractor, do you?

Mahindra is not the #1 tractor seller in the USA either. Try basing your statements on facts instead of spreading misinformation. Mahindra is #1 worldwide, I doubt they are even close to #1 in the USA after looking at the motley crew of dealers they have scattered across the country.

Feel free to be done if you choose. If you decide instead to stay please feel free to contribute instead of complain.

I honestly learned about Mahindra tractors and how the Nebraska testing works. I love having that data available and now I understand how it work better than I did before.

At 100hp, we're talking about a very small segment of overall tractor sales, about 10%. The wheelhouse of tractor sales is below 40hp. ~ 60% of sales. Mahindra is aimed at 90% of the US market for tractor sales. The majority of that segment is not dependent on farming as a means of total income. They are classified as "lifestyle farmers". BTW, those numbers are in unit sales, not total dollars.

2013 article
Mahindra had 8 percent of the U.S. market for small tractors by the end of 2012, according to the company, enough to rank third behind Japanç—´ Kubota and Deere. Franklin says that share reached the å¡—igh single- to low double-digits in this yearç—´ first quarter. Mahindra has more than 400 dealers, up from 250 in 2010, and plans to have as many as 650 by 2015. Japanç—´ Kubota has more than 1,100 dealers in the U.S.; Deere has 1,542 outlets across North America.

Indian Tractor Maker Mahindra Takes On Deere - Bloomberg

What is not clear is if sales of Kioti, LS, TYM, Yanmar et al have changed the rankings.

Although there is a Mahindra dealer in Warner, NH (switched from Massey) most of what I see are Deere and Kubota, with a few Kiotis. There are six Kubotas and two Deeres on our 7 mile road.

My Deere dealer sold me a hat. I get compliments on it all the time. I tell 'em that they don't want one like mine. It was so expensive I talked the guy into throwing in a tractor.

Super corny joke, but I get a LOT of mileage out of it.
