Really nice. In the first set, what is the unit that is in the 5th pic? Anyone know?

Looks similar to an Allis Chalmers cultivator. If I am looking at the same one you are.

Yeah, that makes sense. It's sure the right color. thanks.

They had two of them there. The second picture in the third set is the same critter except that it was missing the engine. The one in the first set was complete. I'm guessing that the engiine is being rebuilt for the second one. Just guessing here as no-one was around to ask while I was there.

Again sorry for the poor picture quality.

Nice to see that little Massey Harris. Ours was the made in Canada, at the Ferguson plant, thus the Fergie grey. These were built during the merger period.

My picture doesn't show it very well, but if you look close you will see the top of an old washing machine behind it. They were using the PTO to power and run the washing machine. The 7th pic in the third set is the same tractor from a different angle. You can see the PTO shaft going down to the washing machine.

I got more than one pic of a couple of the tractors, but most of them are different tractors.

Hey bp fick,

I couldn't help but think of you and some others when I took this one.:D

Seems like it wouldn't take much modification to run behind the tractor to harvest your potatoes.

We used to have one of those potato diggers. A friend modified it to hitch to the drawbar on the 3 point hitch. That way he could adjust the depth with the 3point. I don't remember exactly what tractor he had. It was a 20 something HP compact JD is all I can recall. That digger worked great. It would be nice to have one now but I don't think the tractor I have now would pull it.
Before we got that we dug potatoes with an old walk behind potato plow chained to the back bumper of our old van. To keep it moving you had to keep you momentum going which meant you were going at a pretty good clip. Mom drove and dad danced along behind the plow trying to keep it in the potato hill.
I still laugh when I recall that.

Cyril,

Thanks for sharing all the old and good iron pictures - one that I noted was the John Deere 320 wide front end - I grew up the similar JD 420 and put a lot of hours farming with these vintage machines.

We have fairs starting soon in NH and they have some vintage tractors (Deerfield Fair) and is always fun to look at - my wife just doesn't get it tho..

Mine doesn't get it either. Her and the kids went to the petting zoo...I went and took tractor pix.

But then...
Stop and look at the big shiney new ones, and she's right there with me. Go figure.:confused2:
