Last year I was carrying my Ruger Single Six .22 when on the tractor to try and kill a couple ground hogs I kept seeing around.. My pistol has a 6" barrel and I found my uncle Mikes hip holster worn in a cross draw position (im right handed so i wore it so the handle was in front of my left hip bone) allowed it to be accessable while being relatively comfortable..

BTW - rat shot shell from my pistol WILL NOT kill a ground hog at about 12'.. 4 shots to the body and one shot to the head and it just sat looking at me.. LOL

If you can get as close as 12' you should have just left a normal .22 round in it. Makes them bleed, but still spunky enough to go down thier hole. That way they bury themselves:D

He was sitting in an old apple tree, so I didnt have a safe background for a regular round..

....I got back on the tractor, the snake went back in the hole....

Why didn't you just dig him out of his hole with that post hole digger? Then tell us all about it later. :D

Believe me the thought went through my mind to do just that. Unfortunately the den is about 10 feet over the property line on my neighbors land and it just would not be polite to dig random holes on her place.
I went back out to the farm yesterday and was working in nearly the same spot for about an hour. I think I spent more time looking around making sure no snakes were sneaking up on me than I did working. ;o}

When was the last time some one died from a snake bite? We have cotton mouth and rattle snakes in the area. I sell construction rocks for walls and buildings from my farm. The man who loads the rocks has been bitten several times and doesn't go to Dr. there is a swelling but next day is again loading rock. The dogs when bitten will swell but in short time back to normal. I cannot remember when some one was ill from being bitten.
I am not making fun of snake bite. A Dr. friend said the fear of being bitten is worse than the bite. Some one bitten could you give a accurite description of the treatment.

4.5 ft. long, 19 rattles. He died from cardiac arrest brought on by a deluge of lead pellets from a Smith & Wesson Airweight shooting 38 Sp. shotshells. Yep, those are kevlar leggings too! When wading the swamps I have a pair that are thigh high. We don't kill every snake we come across but only ones where we'll be in that specific area for a while. So far on this job we have seen 3 alligators, 23 cottonmouths and 1 rattlesnake. And no telling how many we didn't see! Anyone need a part time job?
