Well the smallest one being 165 hp and 15,000 lbs I would think it would definetly be overkill for mowing and light tillage. I have never seen one of them, but it looks like they are a real beast. I can't imagine meeting one running 40 mph down some of our roads around here.

Your point is well taken. However, the machine I saw last night was really not that big, relatively speaking of course for a 165hp 15,000 machine. That is why I am having such a hard time getting past some of the used prices I am seeing for them. 40k for 3000-4000 hrs. on the clock. OK mayber a bit more hours than I would want but seems like a lot of machine for that price . . . especially if well maintained.

On a side note, when the guy finished baling last night he pulled right out in 6PM traffic and headed home. Kind of surprised me as he wasn't going very slow either. Who knew balers were meant to tow that fast.

Hmmm, interesting. I wasn't aware. OK so go along with me here. What would be the reasons to NOT buy one. IF, you had a dealer relatively near, and you were going to use it for mowing, square/round baling, light tillage such as discing/planting grass for hay and loader work such as loading/moving hay. Same reason that most people don't buy NH TV145's for such duty?

The JCB is considerably more expensive then like sized/powered tractors. Also, JCB has a small dealer network here in the US and we also do not have very many implements designed to be pulled at high speed here in the US like they have in Europe.

However, if I had a dealer near by and a large square baler for custom baling then I would strongly consider buying one

A friend of mine has 2 of them. He uses them to pull manure spreaders and silage wagons.
