If, if one can do OK by trading, and often this is a result of dealing with a certain subset of dealers over and over, building a relationship whereby the margins are smallers, then trading can be less painful and more efficient.
Still, I beat my trade-in quotes by yes, Barlows and a local dealer by $1500 on my BX1860. In fact, Brady Barlow encouraged me to list it and get more money.
Selling outright isn't for everyone, if it were, there would be no used inventory at dealerships. But, for those who can do it and don't mind doing it, there is money to be pocketed. I've not traded in anything, by way of car, boat, or now tractor in many, many years. i always get a trade in appraisal and I always go home and sell it myself for mucho dollars more.
