Scag stv61v
Hey there,

I'm a homeowner with 2.5 acres mowed once a week.

My wife moved the mower without releasing the dump valves. I was out of town and she was making an effort to make it happen. The right control lever works but the left doesn't.

I released the dump valves retightened to no avail. I drained the hydraulic oil, replaced the filter and filled with Scag's recommended 20/50 to no avail.

Both steering control rods appear to work as designed.

I ran with the rear tires off the ground. The right side works as designed. The left would spin slowly and I could stop it with my hand with little effort.

Ten years ago I rebuilt one of the hydraulic pumps but I do not remember which one.

Purdy puhlease hook a brutha up with steps to diagnose the cause of the issue.

How fast and far was the mower moved? If towed a distance at speed it is possible the HST got damaged since motor is trying to turn but pump is at zero displacement so oil cannot pass through it. If the tire does not slide the oil had to go somewhere.

Did you notice any improvement after running with wheels off the ground?

Some HST take far more work to get air bled out that others. Running with wheels off the ground is the best way to remove air from the HST circuit

I too question how far it was moved with the bleeders closed.

I havent heard of damaging anything moving a short distance, so this would be a first. And maybe just a coincidence. Maybe that side was on its last leg already and this was the final straw

I agree. I’ve gotten stuck a few more times than I’d like to admit.

Got the tractor to pull me out 10-15 feet. Never opened the bleeders.

No issues whatsoever.
