Something else, we could also look into is a pull behind mower for our 30hp kubota... Would be cheaper but have to go through the hassle of hooking it up and what not.

Ah, OK, for some reason all I was picturing was just a big empty 5 acre field.

That's a big yard you got there, I keep trying to down size my mow area.

650$ @ yr you say ?, Don't forget the amount of time you won't have to spend doing it.

Yup $650 + whatever tips we'd give him for it being hot outside.

The amount of things I feel we could get done in the mean time are worth it to me, but I would miss buzzing aroung on the z turn lol

Guess you are right!

However the Lazer Z also saw a $1500 price increase, as did the new Scag's. Said to be due to rise in cost of steel and production.

I doubt we'll find this price on a new one...

We jsut sold out Encore for $4250, so we have that to put to a new mower... or for other goodies we need for our tractor and stuff.

So final verdict is:

We could get a decent price on a 27hp Kohler ExMark or Scag. End up costing us around $3800 on top of the 4250.

We have a Deere 420 that I can use to mow if needed.

It would be cheaper to pay the lad $650 a year to mow every other week.

If he disappears down the road in a year or so then we will need to buy a mower.

We could get a tow behind mower for our tractor, or a powered one to pull behind our polaris.

Alright we decided we should jsut get a mower and be done with it.

Scag Wildcat or ExMark....

Both 60"

Both 27hp air cooled

I'm fan of Scag, but I really like the looks of the new Lazer Z, and the design of the UltraCut Series 6 deck. The only thing that bothers me about the new Z is the un-greaseable deck spindles and fewer grease points than before. There claim to it is "less maintenance", but to me it seems like faster wear and tear.

And the cost of fuel, belts, blades, spark plugs, filters, oil, etc......

I think almost anyone can make an economic case for hiring someone else to mow for them. :D
