I've been having a problem with scalping with my mmm. It leaves a circle sometimes. I hear a funny noise when it happens. I've got 22 hours on it. I've cut my cutting time from 4.5-5 hours to less than 2 with my 7610. Anyone having scalping problems?

Chuck, Try cutting the grass 1/2" higher. I was scalping with mine alot, until I raised the deck 1/2". Now I don't scalp at all and my lawn looks great. I cut at 3" now. von

chuck,

check to see if you have a bent blade.

Well you could go to 3 1/2" and then come next spring roll your lawn. I do mine every spring and it really makes a big difference! I'm cutting 5 acres and made a roller that weighs about 1200lbs. sure smooths out the high spots! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Try raising it up next time you cut and see what happens. There are anti-scalp rollers on the bottom of the deck, they might need to be lowered as well. at least there are rollers on mine. Other than those few things, you could plow up the lawn and start over! think of the seat time you will get putting in a new lawn! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like your thinking for the seat time. I've adjusted the anti scalping rollers on my deck. I bought the Kubota MMM 60" cutter. It's probably the peaks and valleys of my yard. It doesn't do it on my back yard. I probably need to go ahead and buy the front end loader, put some sand on it smooth it & roll it. My yard is still new.
Thanks guys

3 does not mean 3". I found this out thru trial and error. It could mean 3" with the right adjustment. I bought a measuring device from my local JD dealer that makes it easy to measure the blade height.

Any chance of picture of this device ?

Von,
How did you make your roller? I've got a 5 acre pasture that looks like a bomb zone. Also, do you know if it matters what time of year you roll it, spring or fall? I assume you want to do it when the ground is good and saturated.

Mark,
I used an old water tank that is 60" x 24" with rounded ends. Found it in a dumpster, it had a few pin hole in it. I ran a solid 1" rod al the way thru the ends. Holes already there! Then made a frame and was ready to go! I have posted photos of it before on here, Just can't remember which post. You might find them if you do a search on homemade rollers. I'm just too lazy tonight to find it /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I like to roll in the spring after the frost is out of the ground, and everything is nice and soft. Pushs all the rocks back down where they belong. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
