Is this a scam? Scam auctions on Ebay

I reported what looked like a fraud auction on ebay yesterday for an L2900 and today it's pulled. I see another add for a 2003 B21 that I'm positive is a scam so I reported it too:

Does anyone understand the real goal of these guys? Do they try to get people to wire them money or are they just harvesting other ebay accounts from bidders to try to break into or what? I can't imagine spending that much money and not using an escrow account.

These scams seem to be on the rise. I thought crime was supposed to decrease when the economy is picking up...

Yep. They must get a fish on the line often enough to keep doing these type of scams.

Looks like the original account holder regained access to their account. The auction has now ended

I figure its a riskless crime. If they scam you and get away, they get the money. If the ad gets pull, no loss. I bet they are rarely if ever caught, let alone prosecuted.

Its like spam. Almost 100% of spam is fraudulent, but how many people go to jail for the fraud? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The scammers rely on the American "Get the quick deal" mentaltiy. My other hobby is classic mustangs, and Shelbys. I have auctioned several of my Shelbys, and one scammer cut and pasted all of my pictures and description to try to scam people...it almost worked until I saw, and recognized my old car!!! I think the scams are pretty easy to recognize now, and most originalte overseas......At this point I would never do business with anyone overseas on a big ticket item.

You auctioned a Shelby, how could you even part with one of those babies. I want an old one and a new one, but the wifey wont sit still for it.

yes mark they are on the rise!And if they cast a 1000 lines into the water and 1 fish bites , it is a success. point being that there are enough folks that will bite to make the scammers efforts worth their time and effort..
