scooping load into fel bucket

That's always been my favorite shovel.

Yeah, and one would think a large rock would be easy too, just sneak up on rock, work bucket under, and curl..... NOPE... Every blinking fair to large rock I have moved I had to assist it into bucket....Dale

Been there...! When I'm doing that I alway look around and make sure no one is watching...

Too funny! As a new tractor owner/operator, I discovered this challenge immediately. I was attempting to scoop up snow piles along the driveway that had turned to ice. The large ice chunks kept finding ways of escaping the bucket. Eventually, I lowered the bucket, set the brake, jumped off and helped them in with manual effort and a shovel, and got on with it (after looking around to make sure no one was watching!) :tractor:

Well, it can be done with a lot of practice. Of course it helps a bunch to "load" uphill. Trying to load downhill, really sucks. It never works that way. If you ground is flat, well, that can be a challenge. Or you could just get PO'd and go and put on the grapple and teach those surly rocks a lesson!.

That reminds me of a serious error I made one day when I was in a hurry on my old Honda 450 motorcycle. I hopped on the bike, and forgot to unlock the forks as the front wheel was pointed into the direction I wanted to turn and go. In the old days bikes had a separate lock for the forks up on the steering column, and the electrical key switch was under your butt, so two separate things, not like today's bikes. So anyway, I fired her up and took off for a couple of seconds in the parking lot and went to "flop her upright" and it didn't "flop". My body went one way and the bike went another. Oops. I picked myself up off of the pavement, and shut down the bike and unlocked the forks, and proceeded to get it back on its wheels instead of its side. I looked around the parking lot very carefully to know if anyone saw my stupidity. The coast was clear and I rode on and vowed to not do that again.

what k0ua and moss road said - make into skinny line and go at it length wise, going uphill helps gravity push it into bucket, at some point like many have said a shovel might be required - if you have another tractor with a blade on it, park it on the far side of the pile and push into it, that helps dam up the pile from moving - running the engine at full throttle to tip the bucket up quickly to kind of toss the gravel to the back of the bucket helps then let it down slowly to repush into the pile as when there isnt enough weight from the pile it doesnt go into the bucket well that is why loading uphill helps a lot, learned that from using my skidsteer, also work down hill when digging if possible the dirt clears away some and your force/momentum help also with your center of gravity and pressure you can apply toward bucket edge, gravity is your friend in many ways just as well as slope/angle

If you have a garden tractor, with a snow blade, you can put the gravel in the loader bucket, the same way I load loose hay onto my forks,,,
