scotish highland cattle

does any one here raise the highland cows? have been cking out info on them . they seem pretty harty, i found a few ppl here in wv who raise them, i dont have the acrage for a large heard of large cattle, 62 ac but the grass is not the best yet! gonna take lots of work and time. i think a couple of highlands would work out fine Rose

Are those the Oreo cows ? black on both ends and a white band in the middle ? Or are those Belted Galloways ?

Slowrev,
they are the long haired redish cattle. They are very hardy, durable lean cattle. They are smaller framed and the ones I have been around are good temperment. I have been thinking of a couple myself, but have not made a move on them yet. My ex sister-in-law has them.

My neighbor has a few of them. They are very hardy and handle cold weather well. They have a great disposition and remain calm around people. If you spend any time talking to them, they will come right up to you when you walk up to the fence. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

thanks for imput, i have been around large cows,and you have to keep one eye on them always LOL. one time we borrowed a bull{blk angus} i had discoverd we buit the fence too good, walking thou the field to other field carrying a stick{yeah right ! thats thats gonna stop him!} droped his head, an stared at me.. gulp..it felt like a million miles to the gate, fence was too close to slip under or between, he didnt charge but i know he was making a game plan. i will not have someing my field that could run me over... i think the highlands would be the ticket.expecialy if they are ppl friendly. thnaks again Rose /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
