scotts 1642h bypass ignition switch

I have a scotts 1642h mower. lost key to ignition switch. removed switch and was going to try and bypass. Sorry I jacked something up. trying to bypass switch. jumped between two connectors on switch plug and motor turned over but would not start. tried jumping other terminals on plug and shorted something. Now does nothing if I jump between battery and starter terminal on plug. May have fried contacts in solenoid? Can jump solenoid on large terminals with screwdriver and motor turns over but will not crank. everything working fine before I removed switch. Anyone have any suggestions? wiring diagram? Can I bypass ignition switch?

Seem like you're jumpering the start contact, but not the run contact?

i found a diagram of ignition switch and when i jump the run contacts, B and L, then i get same condition. I can jump solenoid and starter turns over but no crank. I am going to look at your link now.

should i be jumping the run and start contacts in order to get it to crank?

(Without looking at the diagram) Usually the run and start contacts are both closed to get it to crank. That is, they are "jumpered" with the 12v hot. ( not each other). The start contact is only closed temporarily when cranking, but the run contact stays closed when running.
