Had an above ground pool made of aluminum Got tired of being the only one taking care of it and no one using it. Plus it was due for a new liner & filter. Got $240 for the scrap:) -Ed

I went thru the same thing except I posted it online and some kids (20 somethings) paid me $1,000 for it and took it down and hauled it away all by themselves. It was sweet to watch that thing disappear.

We have been cleaning up the place I bought, and I tried and tried to get someone to take it away for the value of the scrap, one guy showed up, took one load, said he would be back, and never saw him again.

We just started doing loads as we have time, it pays ok. I am not going to quit my day job, but the farm is getting clean, and the gas etc. is getting paid by the labor.

I think it was $150 a ton for scrap steel last I looked.

I am in Clarksville, which should be close enough for similar prices to where you are.

There are 3 scrap traders in a nearby city. about 15 km drive from my house.
Some years ago i bought a small 1 axle trailer, which i use as a "scrapbin on wheels" and when its full, i drive it to the scrapyard over small roads where the chance of meeting police is minimal, because the lights stopped working long ago.

I haul about 500 kg each time, and usually get 70 to 80 euro for it. Because i only have to hook up the scrapbin to the Volvo and go, it just takes about 90 minutes of my time to drive there, weigh, and unload. My cost would be the cost of fuel, which is 3 to 4 euro. As long as no cops fine me for not having proper lights, the rest is pure profit ;)

I get about 1 euro per kilo for aluminium, copper and bronze. There is a different price for whole electrical motors.

When i ever scrap a large piece of machinery, i drive there by tractor and haywagon.
Calling them up, saying that you have 3 ton and want to know what their price is before going there, they usually give 1 or 2 cents per kilo more than if you just stopped by...

Renze.
If my calculations are correct, we get the same here. You said 500kg(roughly 1100lbs?) for 70-80 euros (approx. $150 Can/Am dollars) I believe we get $ 150/1000lbs for what they call SHRED here(mixed anything)
Funny I read this thread as today I picked up a scrap electric motor while on a job, that turned out wieghing 680lbs....got $135 for it.
I work on the road as a service tech and in the last year or two REALLY realized the value in scrap. I once was on a job where they were installing a new 100ton(?) refer unit and picked up the scrap 3" copper piping. It took 20 minutes to load, 30-40 minutes to drive to the scrap place and unload---$450.
I believe now, we get ...
$.012/lb for mixed(shread)
$.020/lb for motors
around $.050/lb for aluminum
around $.050/lb for brass
around $3.00/lb for clean copper
around $2.60/lb for dirty copper
Apparently China is driving the cost for scrap up alot in the last year or two.
Don't give the stuff away without spending a few minutes thinking about it.
