1*By the way is it true you have to change the hydro transmission oil filter after 10 hours?
3*If so, don't you have to empty the transmission before doing so?
5* -Also how hard is it to get to the tranny oil filter?
I know the break in oil has to be changed at 10 hours, but
7*can not believe you would have to change the hydro filter after just 10 hours.

1*YES
3*Nope / you can do like I did simply unscrew the filter and let it flow. Makes a real mess and loses about 3 or 4 quarts of fluid.Might be a better idea to take the drain plug out and drain out about 4 quarts into a pan.
5*The 2554 wasn't hard to get to at all.
7*The first few hours is when cuttings shavings grit etc can result so you need to filter them out.

The initial 10 hour filter change is a precaution to remove any production debris from the hydrostatic system. This filter change goes back to the IH days with the Sunstrands, and is a good idea. Think about it... with those cheap sealed hydrostatic jobs on little LT's, you can't even change the filter, or the fluid!

The Cub 2500's are a big step above the, "maintenance free" throwaway girlie tractors- they are designed for people who want to maintain a machine properly to last a long time. If your mindset is that you don't want to maintain it and just push it to the curb in 8-10 years, buy any one of the colorful inexpensive LT's you can get anywhere.

Pearlmanz- Glad to hear your happy with the new 2542, I'm still waiting to try my 2544 out for the first time. Hopefully by next week. My 1*manual says to change the filter at 10,50 and every 100 hours after that but says nothing about a complete fluid change.
2*My dealer said to just change the filter and top off the fluid you loose.
1* & 2*I'm tempeted to just change both the fluid and the filer every 300 hours and forget this hassle.
