Scrap yard find of the week.

He said he didn't sell stuff because if he let one person buy stuff he would be over run with pickers. I offered to trade my 3000 pound car for it and he still said no. I'm looking for a better place to sell my scrap metal.

That's enough to make the blood boil, no?

That happened to me a few years ago. The recycling yard I was going to to
dump my cardboard and recycle my aluminum cans had some piles
of unopened 250-ft rolls of Romex wire. They would not sell it to me. :-(

Anyway, I was scrapping out a pickup truck a few weeks ago at SIMs
Metals (a national operation) and I decided to take a look at their For Sale
area. I bought a fixable Bobcat 4-in-1 bucket! I'll start a new thread
on fixing it.

At our city scrap/recycle yard the employee helps me sort for tires for my trailer.
I get all sorts of 1/2 3/4 cans of paint and usually take reds black grey and like tremclad but never touch latex.
I always 'tip' him for his help.
Shucks, folks toss propane bottles that are 3/4 full--real waste.
Last time I got one gallon of Tremclad primer that I swear maybe a brush might have been dipped in.
Some real wasting out there.
A buddy once got a 100 ft roll of 4 ft frost fencing when he went to dump a load of leaves.
Vacuum cleaner that only needed a new plug (all attachments and hose in seperate box)

I once found a mess of brand new Ford 917 flail knives in the metal department of our now closed dump. That was my primary mower around the property at the time. Being in stoney country, I went through my share of them.

I built a workshop about 130' from my house and need to run power to it. I decided to run the power from my house panel, but of course that 160' 2/0 line would cost $600.. well out of my budget.

Well, I found a 160' roll of 2/0 alum direct burial line for $40. I was literally jumping for joy when I found it.

Found this weird bucket from the scrapyard and took it with me. It looks strange with its moving section in the middle. What is this good for?

Looks like an ejector bucket. The moving piece kicks out any dirt that may be sticking to the inside of the bucket.

Thats an odd 2 way bucket combined with an ejector plate. I had one on a Backhoe on a job one time. the backe of the bucket was open like the one pictured and whey you dug a trench you could use the back of the bucket as a shovel to face up the b ack of the trench. Regular backhoe work the flap would act as the back of the bucket and eject mucky soil.
