Grading Scraper blade - how wide?

Monster blade. Wow. Hadn't thought about the angle changing with offset. But when do you use flatter blade angles? I don't see the use for them...at flatter angles I'd rather use a box blade or grading plane. But I defer to you, because I really know less than 1% of what you do.

Check this place out...made right here in GA. Their 96" weighs 827#, $2200 without hyds. What do you think? Seems well built. I could get this one and buy the hyds from you.

Dirt Dog Model 9108, 96" Rear Blade

I typically run my blade between 30*-45*. Really depends on what I'm doing and again, moisture content.

That Dirt Dog is a good model at a GREAT price. About $2500 for the base blade, skid shoes and blade tilt pin adjuster. They get your attention with that $2200, but that is for the base unit only, NOTHING ELSE.

I have contemplated getting an 84" Dirt Dog unit for my smaller tractor. Down fall is, it only has 20" offset capability. The plus side is it is heavier than the LP unit. The 30" of offset that Land Pride has with their RBT35 series is a HUGE plus with this size-weight of blade in my mind. In reality 20" offset is probably fine, it's just nice to have that little bit more if-when that occasion arises.

As far as the cylinders with hose kits from me, we should be in the 5-$600 range for the 2-16" stroke cylinders and hose kits.

Turbys, what is the weight of your tractor you put this Super Rhino on? I'll just be grading gravel on my driveway...#34 and crusher run, and it would go on my 4100 pound 62 hp L6060. I don't think I'll have any problem with a 1000 pound blade, but I welcome anyone's input.
My T4.75 with loaded rears and FEL should be somewhere between 9000 and 9500 pounds. I'm guessing that off specs and have not weighed the unit to verify.

What model are you talking about? I don't know of any heavy duty blades with variable tilt, angle, and offset positions that you can also turn it completely backwards without unbolting everything.

Everything Attachments "Xtreme Duty Scrape Blade",.... but not hydraulic

AGTacticle - both of the blades I had/have were/are 96". My rear tires are 80" - outside to outside. Takes that wide a blade to get a descent offset when plowing snow. Allows me to - offset, stay 24" from the edge of the driveway - plow snow completely off the edge of the driveway. There are a few places on the driveway where "off the edge" is an 8 to 10 foot drop.

Summer maintenance - I only offset to clean out the ditches. Otherwise, it's angled only and a straight pull behind the tractor

When crowning - I tilt to the max and angle. When the blade rests down - it is still, more or less level. However - once I get going it's obvious there is more down pressure/weight/whatever on the outside edge. It cuts and piles to the center of the driveway.

As MtViewRanch says - blade size/weight depends upon what you want to do - moisture content - type of material you are working with. My driveway has just enough silt, clay and volcanic ash - - turns to rock hard concrete in the summer.

My first blade - Land Pride GS3596 was 96" & 565 pounds. Far too light for attacking my concrete-like driveway in the summer. My current blade - Rhino 950 is 96" & 1100 pounds. I have to be careful or all the driveway could end up in the ditch.

The Rhino is wider than Kubota recommends( 72" ) but lighter than they recommend(1200 pounds). This crazy situation ( weight vs width ) follows thru consistently on all the implements listed in my Owners Manual. I use but don't abuse. So far the heavy rear blade has caused no damage to the 3-point ( 4 1/2 years + ). And I've "pulled" sufficient loads of dirt to cause all four wheels to spin.

The situation I'm most cautious of - hooking something (root or bedrock) with the rear blade and causing an instant dead stop. To help prevent this situation - when plowing unknown areas I will tilt the blade - top-forward, cutting edge - trailing. This way if I encounter something - the blade will bounce over rather than catching.

I have 3 back blades to work with;
a 9 foot Deere it's all manual to spin the blade 180 I just have to pull the pin and turn it.
I just picked up an old Allied 10 footer it will have the hydraulic angle, and eventually full hydraulics,
to rotate the blade 180 all that needs to be done is pull the pin on the rod end of the cylinder and rotate.
The Ford is an 11 footer with full hydraulics and it's the same one pin on the angle cylinder and spin the blade 180 repin and go.

Brian (MtnView)...ever try using a good rake instead of a blade for gravel road maintenance? I don’t have any fines...its all #34 rock. Anyone else have any input on this?

I have only used my rake on the roads for final dressing, not for actual maintenance. I would think that a good heavy rake rake would work very well. I have not had a reason to use mine for that task.

In fact my rake has been apart for many years awaiting time to build a good hitch frame for it and install hydraulic offset and angle.

Someday when I have some spare time. ;)
