Howdy,

Was wondering if any company made an attachment that essentially screws a metal post in? There are a couple companies here that essentially look like they made their own using a hydraulic motor and different types of transmissions...

They are usually on a bx or atv platform with a 6 way boom and outriggers.

I'm looking to either buy one or make one and to use my ag tractor for it.

The output of the motor needs to be around 3-10rpm with about 20 to 30k lb-ft of torque. Most units here produce about 15k lbs of torque.

So essentially does any one know if one is commercially available or if I had to go the route of getting a 200rpm hydraulic motor (at 16gpm) and then try to make or get some sort of transmission /gearbox that steps it down 20:1 or such...

Thanks

Hey,

They tend to look more like these
tracteur_accueil.jpg

For the setup

While the post itself is something along the lines of this pieux_double_fr_v3.png

We are talking about tubes that are 2-3-4-5 inches in diameter with the screw blade being anywhere from 8 to 24inches and sometimes doubled.

They are usually screwed in about 7-10-16 feet deep.

Anything needing more support than that , or larger diameters, is usually a pounded post or w shaped post..

I've only seen large machines doing that style, not BX or ATV size.

Well here they have either a self propelled unit , atv or bx series.

The first two usually can go up to about 2-3inch tube with a 12 inch diameter fan blade while the bx can go up abit higher. Up to 16inch fan or two 14s.

The rest of them get screwed in using excavators.

I'm looking to get one or make one for my 115hp tractor with most likely a mast rather than a boom.

Other equipment I've seen do things like these are digger/derrick trucks

Looking at Surplus center, they have low speed motors, wheel motors and torque hubs. The RPM listed is probably at maximum flow. I think at a lower volume but still high pressure they would run much slower with about the same power.

They also have a hydraulic calculation page.

Maybe you could find a combination that works with your hydraulic output to get the speed and power you want.

Interesting. I've never seen anything like that before...at least not that size. Can those be used for purposes such as building columns and such?

They are primarily used and screwed in, below the frost line with applications being patio decks, support beams, concrete footing reinforcements (prior to pour). Some shallow water docks (it's a case by case scenario due to ice dragging them out here ).

Being screwed in below the frost line, they tend to create a more stable foundation that isn't prone to frost heave. They do have some downsides and limitations but figure using them for a deck instead of a concrete pillars/columns or concrete slab, they will provide better load bearing capabilities at a cheaper price/faster installation.

However I would not suggest them for fences as they have little lateral force but good compressive strength.

Even bigger ones are sometimes used and screwed in at an angle to support poles. Essentially like a guy anchor.

They are also relatively good as they can be screwed back in or have an extension welded on while a concrete post cannot be altered as easily..

Also thanks for the link Bruce, the torque hubs look like something I'd need with a hydraulic motor attached to it.

3 rpm @ 20,000 ft-lbs= 11 HP
10 rpm @ 30,000 ft-lbs= 57 HP

I think you're out of BX or ATV range.

I know that, most bxs only perform 10rpm at 4-5k ft lbs

Tractor I'm looking to put it on is a 115hp AG tractor. (Deutz fahr agrofarm 430).
