Next month I'm flying up to New Brunswick to eyeball a couple power plants. We're going to look at their operation of the scrubbers and assoc. equipment. Scrubbers are nothing more than a method used remove sulfur dioxide from the flue gasses, albeit a very complicated operation.
Egon and I have exchanged a few PM's about my trip, but that was before I found out that is NB and not Nova Scotia was where I'm going.
I know that there are a few guys from NB on here, but dipped if I can remember who you guys are. I'm going up to Dalhousie and then down to Coleson Cove, between the 18th and 20th of Jan. I just know it's going to cold, but how cold. What can you guys tell me about the Province as far as weather and such go? Eh? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
If anyone has read my bio, I purposely left out the part of myself being involved in the power industry. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif You wouldn't beleive the flack we get because of the blackout, and
at times I've been asked to look into peoples light bills for them. And no, we're not all electricians either! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

roughcut; .......and on and on it goes. I figured there was a few of us on here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif But, there is light at the end of the tunnel, only a couple more years left at this and I can restart/relocate my building business.

I'm at Monroe Power Plant, where are you? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually we're real good here. We we +2 centigrade (34 in farenheight I think) here today with lots of rain. The word around here has been that we were going to get the snow storm of the century & I think that would have been possible if we were a little colder because we've had rain since thursday (lots of it) & the weatherman is predicting rain/snow all week. The forecast says above freezing the rest of the week so I think we'll be spared this one, somehow I think we'll pay !! Probably when you come, eh ?? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That would be a good story, I brought the cold with me, ya know? LOL /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It will most likely be later in the winter or early spring if I'm sent up your way. These company sponsored trips don't always leave much time for fun, but you never know. My wife and I haved talked about visiting NS a number of times. My grandmother immigrated thru there from Scotland in the 1930's. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You're pretty close to 34F, I never have been able to remember the conversion between F and C. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Johnday! Just got your PM! I'm in Fredericton about halfway between Dalhousie (I assume you'll look at Belldune too or maybe you're just looking at the Orimulion Plants?) and Saint John.

Dalhouse and Belldune are on the shore and it gets bloody cold and windy up there. It can be above freezing in Januray during a thaw but more than likely it will be about -20 F the whole time.

Saint John is on the Bay of Fundy with the worlds highest or second highest tides so it gets called the worlds largest toilet, anyways, due to the large movement of water the bay stays between -1C and 4 C all year long (30-40 F). This means on warm days it is foggy, and cold days it is cold! They will probably be about 15 F -25 F during your visit!

I did a bunch of engineering work on the orimulsion conversion at coleson, mostly related to fire protection. It is kind of a low budget FGD process, they asked for a cost estimate, got it, then arbitrarily cut the budget by 1/3. Even the light fixtures got reevaluated for budget constraints!

Anyways, if you're in Fredericton drop a line, I work right in town!

Another note, at Coleson you may end up with my best friend when I was little, he is an operator at the plant.

Ken; Thanks for the reply! Wow, with temps like your talking I better bring a couple tukes, eh? Orimulsion A. I know thats what Dalhousie uses for fuel, but I'm not sure what that is. Is that the coal slurry system I've heard of? Even with the weather like you say, I'm looking forward to do an out country trip. I can't say Niagara Falls is too far out for me this time of year, but Northern NB is the furtherest north in Canada I think I've ever been. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'll be staying at the Best Western in Dalhousie the night of the 18th, if it isn't too far for you, why don't we hook up? I'm sure they've a restaurant that might just have some Killians laying around. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, do you think I should bring my malamute in case of heavy snow? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
