search feature doesnt seem to work. Want to read about "Dirt scoop" AKA Skim Scoop

I type in Dirt Scoop or Skim Scoop into search and get every thread under the sun.....none specifically for the 3PH scoop I am looking for.

Have a Mits MH1800 with CAT1 3PH and wondering about these skim scoops. How well will it dig virgin ground to pick up some dirt to maintain my MX track? Just need to fill some low spots. Nice loamy Northern Illinois black dirt.

Same here. Never found it of any use at all. Shame.

Hey, thanks.
That is exactly the type of thread reading I wanted.
Now to learn more about them.
Seems like they would work well with my 2000lb 2WD (turff tires) MT180.
Just want to skim and scoop up some dirt by backing into a berm and delivering and dumping it to another spot on my track.
Could use a shovel and a wheel barrow......but have a tractor and thought there has to be something made for this.
Even if I jamb into the dirt bank backwards and only get a wheel barrow full of dirt, way better than shoeveling

I used one of those dirt scoop for years and they work really well. You can dig both forward, reverse and can adjust your tractor's top link to get the most effective digging angle of the scoop.

I moved a lot of dirt when building my shooting range berms, filling in holes and building up flower beds, etc. I still have mine and I guess it's 35+ years old by now.

I have had a scoop for close to 20 years. It isn't an FEL, but it is surprising how much you can do with one.

Wife had a project yesterday that required moving dirt, she even admitted she was surprised how much we got done in a relatively short period of time with the scoop. She was even pleased I was able to keep the grade she wanted......

So I score it as a win!

Yea, crude device, but they are far better than a shovel and wheelbarrow.

Haven't used mine since I bought the backhoe but it came in very handy when I first got it. Good for digging and moving small amounts of dirt and handy for all sorts of other things like skidding logs, moving trees, etc.

POND SCOOP is another search term to explore.

HOWSE, DIRT SCOOP, 24",REVERSABLE | eBay

Also consider Pat's Easy Mover from Greenwell Manufacturing in Kentucky. In the UK these popular attachments are called TRANSPORT BOXES.

All Three Point Hitch mounted implements weight the tractor's rear wheels, improving traction for work, to a certain extent.

You will need to research carefully which scoops fit the Three Point Hitch on your small tractor.

Thanks all.
My problem was indeed using the site's thread search feature with "dirt scoop" in the search box.
It gave me every thread that had the word "dirt" in it.......like most of every thread here.

TonyPoint you got me going in the right direction, thanks.

That is the item I need. I see them at tractor supply type places for $400-500. Used for $300. Even if it is a bit bent or rusty is OK as we would fix it and weld it and modify it as needed.

The reversable dirt scoop looks a little better at digging than the Pats EZ mover. A bit more rugged. I was hoping it would be able to bite into a berm and dig a chuck of dirt and carry it. Looks like it could do that indeed. I dont have to carry it far. Maybe I would try it as skim scoop and pull it forward to take down a whoop (small perpendicuar berm to track direction) and carry it to low area.

Wish I could find a Craig's List unit close (100miles) to northern Illinois for $200.
If not, I'll buy a new one for $400 or so.
Tempted to try to make my own.....but that would be some $200 worth of steel and welding wire and might not get the geomtry right.

Sometimes it's better to start with the right one.

Thanks everybody that read my post and helped.
