My Mits180HD is a three cyl diesel.
Weighs about 2000lbs.
18HP and low gear is low.
2WD but has diff lock and pulls my drag pretty good.
Pulls the box scraper good enough.
HUGE turf tires like 20" across as I cut the lawn with it so cannot have ag tires.

It is a strong little machine. Not expecting huge capacities with this 2WD machine. But certainly better than a shovel and cart.

Hey, thanks.
That is exactly the type of thread reading I wanted.
Now to learn more about them.
Seems like they would work well with my 2000lb 2WD (turff tires) MT180.
Just want to skim and scoop up some dirt by backing into a berm and delivering and dumping it to another spot on my track.
Could use a shovel and a wheel barrow......but have a tractor and thought there has to be something made for this.
Even if I jamb into the dirt bank backwards and only get a wheel barrow full of dirt, way better than shoeveling

I think you should be alright but be careful when jamming it into a dirt bank backwards so you don't bent a 3 point arm. I did twice doing just that, but with a little heavier machine.

They work great for digging out 4 inches for sidewalk construction. It is a poor mans FEL.

Interesting that all of the videos that I've seen on Pond Scoops show the tractor "pushing" them rather than pulling them. I would think they'd be more efficient pulling.

I think most are working from a pile, not excavating.

Here's one.

Turnbuckle Lower Link stabilizers provide tension support only when tractor is operating forward.

Operating in reverse, slack turnbuckle Lower Link stabilizers will bend, ending the turnbuckle stabilizer's ability to tension evenly when tractor operates forward.

Rigid Lower Link stabilizers can be PRUDENTLY applied to push.

The rigid, heavy Lower Links and pin-adjustable rigid stabilizers on my L3560 can be used with a Rollover Box Blade to push a pile of fill dirt with the tractor operating in reverse.

Here is position of Rollover Box Blade before it pushes dirt.

I'd try it both forward and backward.
That is why they are reversable.
I'd think that scooping up backward would be stronger than draggin forward.
My box blade seems to really dig in and bulldoze harder when pushed in reverse.

Tractors & the 3pt especially are made to pull, not push. The 3pt linkages are MUCH stronger in tension than compression. Get a straw & try to pull it appart... Not gonna happen. But try & crush it, it will crumple easily.

I'll push a bit with my box blade, but not much as I don't want to be replacing 3pt linkage parts.

I used a Tumble Bug to move a bunch of dirt when we built our house. Here is a youtube of a similar unit moving some dirt. Mine has two ropes coming to operator. One is used to angle the scoop down to dig dirt, the other used to dump and reset.

Tumblebug Rotary Scraper Moving Dirt - YouTube (this is the first of many you tube videos that came up when searching).
