Just to throw another monkey in the wench works;

What would you guys do with 29 PTO hp and the choice of 540 OR 1000 PTO RPM??

I keep looking at the NT pto gens and I am thinking that I could run it in 1000 rpm at the PTO and run the engine at about 1/2 throttle.

NT 7200 watt

This would run everything I need. 220v well pump, woodburner, freezer and fridge and a couple lights. Might have to unplug the freezer to run extra lights or if it is summer then the ceiling fans would take the place of the furnace.

Anyway, this is rated for 14 PTO hp, at 1/2 throttle and 1K PTO rpm is my thinking correct that this should work?

I need about this big to run the pump, its deep, no less will really do. I could run the bigger one, but there is no real need for the extra watts, unless I want all the neighbors over. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Or would one of the 10K heads rated for 1800 rpm with a 2:1 or 3:1 transmission with 1K pto rpm be the way to go?

Should work.. except your tractor is not in it's power band at that engine speed. Tractor is probably designed to be run at pto speed for max efficiency.. Using the trick of the fast pto setting on low engine rpm to get 540 pto rpm may or may not work..Let us know /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't get crazy based on the ratio in the subject...
After I submitted this post I did a little figuring and determined the ratio of my engine RPM to PTO. With 540PTO RPM I'm at about 26-2700 RPM. If it's 2700, it's a 5:1 reduction. At that ratio, 2000 on the engine will give me 400 at the PTO, and that's where I figured I probably would have enough power to drive the PTO and still save fuel. Figuring the input RPM at 400, the speed increasing ratio changes from 1:6 to 1:4.5 which is substantial.
I still need to try to come up with a torque curve or some data that will give a pretty good indication other than the feel of my butt on the seat, of the engine HP at various RPM's.
Before you start spending money or wasting too much time try to find out what you need and what you have to work with. I've got a lot of time to waste thinking about this sort of stuff but before I get to spending money I want to know pretty much it's going to work.
I've not given up on the idea, because it's important to me to try to reduce fuel consumption if I can. Day after day if you have to use the generator fuel can get to be more expensive than the generator itself...

Let me borrow your generator and we can find out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Im kind of thinking along the lines that it will work, at about 1500 rpm. That thing will do a lit at 1500 rpm and I dont think that turning a gen that requored 14pto hp would slow it much. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
