I definitely wouldn't waste time on it then.
How do you like the robot mowers? I'm mostly switched to ducks & geese for the "lawn" but every few weeks still need to do clean-up after them because they don't seem to like some of the stuff that comes up (the "lawn" is green, and there's grass making it up, among other things. it's green so it's a lawn, but it's not fancy.)
craigslist here usually has an ad with at least a couple guys wanting your dead mower
I suspect a lot of "dead mowers" just don't move any more, or have a clogged carb.
I know mine surges which if I recall is running too lean? but I haven't been able to find a way to tune it back (Kohler 26 twin if I recall). Doesn't surge when mowing but just driving around it's like vrm!vrm!vrm! but it's not dead yet.
