Big day here in KY Sept 1, opening day of dove season. Lots of old traditional family hunts going on. Anybody else hunt 'em?. Anyone have a good dove breast receipe? I plan to take some off the bone, marinate them in thousand island, wrap in bacon with toothpick and grill. I may try some more the same way but rolled in KY kernal flour and deep fried.

I'll be out there bright and early! I usually marinate the breast meat in worcestershire sauce. Take two breast pieces and place a piece of cream cheese, a slice of jalapeno pepper and wrap with bacon. Toothpick together and grill. Tastes like fillet.

Yep, big here in TX..

I don't bother marinating, jalapeño, bacon and grill em up.

Daily limit here is also 15, posession is 30. I'll be hunting over some food plots, sunflowers, milo(grain sorghum), corn. Near a cattle feed lot. Using my old Wingmaster with some 7.5s. My best shooting ever was 45 shots and 15 birds, considering any bird within 40-45 yards I'll "try a lick".

Looking forward to opener here next Saturday...15 daily limit, also, but can't shoot until noon during the first segment of the season.

Favorite prep is busting out the breast, wrapping in bacon and placing them on the grill...yum.

Same here noon the first day. We usually stop at six to let the birds come in and feed.

Same here, noon start. We shoot over sunflowers and corn. We also have several guest coming so we'll have a hog in the pit and a bushel of boiled peanuts (boiled with ham hocks and Vidalia onions).

As far as the birds, my favorite is still doves and grits with homemade biscuits.

I used to hunt doves, but haven't in years. My percentage wasn't very good, and I never cared for the meat anyway. Quail and pheasant were more to my liking. However, in some circles hereabouts September 1st is like a state holiday. I recall that there was often a cold front that would come ripping through the last couple days of August and made the doves scarce.

Opening day 2015 is in the books. Lots of birds. Harvested 17 birds out of 35 shots. Very good shooting for me. Now you tear me a new one I know the limit is 15 but anyone who tells you nothing is impossible has never tried to find a down dove in a soybean field. Two still out there for the 'possums I guess. Pretty fun trying to sneak up on them in the sunflowers and milo.
