Season opener Sept 1

We have a lot of those Ring Necked Doves around lately, wonder if they are also legal to shoot and what they taste like? They are about twice the size of a mourning dove. Update: Found this

Four species of doves are legal to hunt in Kansas: mourning dove, Eurasian collared-dove, ringed turtle-dove, and white-winged dove. Pigeons, also known as rock doves or rock pigeons, are classified as a pest species, not a game species, and can be shot year-round.

Opening day 2015 is in the books. Lots of birds. Harvested 17 birds out of 35 shots. Very good shooting for me. Now you tear me a new one I know the limit is 15 but anyone who tells you nothing is impossible has never tried to find a down dove in a soybean field. Two still out there for the 'possums I guess. Pretty fun trying to sneak up on them in the sunflowers and milo.

If you didn't find em they don't count. I only want my dove floured and fried. My absolute favorite of all game birds.

There are some collared doves in Ky but I've never seen one. I plan to let them rest and feed till Sat and then round two. And round 3 on Labor Day with some other family.

I'll do some hunting for them this weekend. I love eating dove with jalapeno and bacon and a ice cold Lonestar beer. mmmm:licking:

There's a bumper crop of sunflowers this year in northern New Mexico due to all the rain we've had. Plenty of doves too. They love sunflowers. I was out at several ranch ponds the last two days and bagged my limits each day.

Opening day yesterday at noon. We had a great shoot and got limits. My son and I each shot a banded dove.

I tried it a long time ago and it wasn't my thing, but ever since then, I look forward to Sep 1 as the beginning of getting ready for deer season. I've sprayed my food plot with roundup and will disk it and plant it pretty soon. We've went target practicing yesterday and will probably go again tomorrow. Stocked up on ammo too.
