planning on making the change back to 10w-30 oil in my 2166, does anyone think it will hurt anything to just reuse the oil filter with the new weight oil since it's only about 20 hrs old? The manual says I can go 50 hrs on the filter before I have to change it again. No big deal to get a new filter, but I also wondered what the cross reference was for this filter so I can just go get a wix or equivalent filter instead of having to run to the CC dealer for one every time.

Years ago we always only changed the oil filter every other oil change. Then filters got a lot cheaper and we all got into the habit of changing it everytime. If I remember to get one when I'm ready to change the oil then I also change it.but sometimes I wait till next change.Mixing weights with that little amount of oil I wouldn't give it a second thought.
As for filters.I found Autozone and Nappa have good coverage for almost all small engines. My CC2013 with Onan engine takes a Bosch from autozone and my CC1863 takes a "STP" filter. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The fiber media elements in spin on oil filters do breakdown over time. Holes will eventually blow thru the media and pieces of media can and do wind up on the oil pump pickup screen. This does take a long time for a filter to fall apart. At a couple bucks a pc, you might as well change out the filter. I know there are a million posts on oil/filters, but I run the double length 51516 WIX filter on my kohler command 20. Same price, same specs, more capacity, why not?

Rob, I usually get my oil filters from either carquest or napa auto parts. Carquest premiums or NAPA gold's are WIX filters. It's hard to find 'genuine' WIX filters in my area. That 51516 is the same as a motorcraft FL400A which TONS of fords use.

Oops sorry Rob, forgot about the price. NAPA golds or Carquest premiums usually run $5-7. Motorcraft FL400A's or equiv can be had for a couple bux.

Hey thanks guys, esp. Mark1, for the reference. I'll run to napa and pick up filter and oil. Gotta get the snowthrower disconnected this weekend and get the mower deck on so I'm ready for cuttin' green!

They are also really tough filters. Hard to crush/dent.
