**** like that just burns me up. I am super glad your driver didnt get killed. I wish the da would charge the other driver with atempted murder because he ran for it. damaged property sucks but those things will happen. to put that kind of hurt on some one and then run off though is inexcusable. I wont ever be a cdl because id run the schmuck over with out a 2nd thought. I say that because the situation screams of a driver talking on the phone or other such bs.

Ouch, and they say tractors need ROPS. Glad no one was hurt.

Good point. Just last evening the family and I drove past a rolled pickup, the EMT's had the driver on a gurney :( It really wouldn't be a bad idea to (you guys are gonna love this word) mandate some sort of real roll over protection for trucks.

Rollover protection for big trucks has been discussed for a couple of years now, and I beleive it is at least a few years off, but will eventualy become reality. If Cat can design and build ROPS systems that will support an 80k constuction machine while still allowing the use of a cab, then so can the heavy truck manafacturers. Personaly, IMO, the reason that OEM`s havn`t moved on it is besides the obvious cost increases of outfitting every truck with a ROPS, many owners and drivers alike who have never been involed in a serious accident may not appreciate the trade off between say 1,000 lbs of legal payload vs. a stronger safer cab assembly. If the ROPS cab was not mandated by law, and Company A offered it standard, with a maximum payload penalty, and company B did not offer it at all and offered a 1k payload advantage, IMO, you would see many bean counter purchasing agents choosing the trucks with the higher legal payload over the safer perhaps more expensive ROPS trucks. This probably would not be the case across the board, but it is certainly reasonable to assume that some companies put the bottom line above all else, and that would cost Manafacturer A some sales until the playing field was leveled. Just my opinion.

I'm glad that the driver wasn't badly hurt. People don't realize how difficult it is to handle a truck.

It seems to me though, that 10 yards of wet topsoil is a little too much weight for a single axle truck. I could be wrong.

You are correct, he was overloaded. Unfortunatly, some drivers think just because the box will hold that much, it is ok to fill it up every time.
