I almost never wear a seatbelt. On the tractor maybe 2% of the time, only if on a very steep hill. In a car less than 1% of the time, only when I feel threatened that the cops will give me a ticket for not wearing one. I do not disagree that wearing a seatbelt is safer than not wearing one. Wearing a motorcycle helmet while on the tractor or in the car in addition to the belt would further increase safety, but I don't do that either.
We all have different standards for what we feel is safe and what we feel is to much danger. While I do not wear a seatbelt, there are other things that many seatbelt wearing people will do, that I would not, because I think those things are just to dangerous. For example I would never carry gasoline or propane in the passenger compartment or in the trunk (connected to passenger compartment) of a car. This is much to dangerous for me. I would never ever strap a baby into one of those baby carriers on the back of a bicycle. The danger is just to great. While I love motorcycles, I will never ride another one after breaking my leg on one. I believe riding a motorcycle with a helmet is much more dangerous than riding unbelted in a car.
I would never smoke, that is much more dangerous than riding unbelted. I do not drink and watch my diet carefully, eating low fat and low salt. I keep thin since the health risks associated with those things are much to high for me.
So, if you are going to tell me that I should wear a seatbelt, or call me ignorant, then I hope that you don't carry gas in your car, carry a baby on your bike, ride a motorcycle, smoke, drink, eat fatty foods, are over weight, sky dive, scuba dive, mountain climb or do anything else that is risky.
This is a free country, adults should be able to make their own choices without others telling them they are wrong or insulting their intelligence.
