When i was thinking about it later it occured to me to try tapping the brake, but have yet to be back on the tractor to try it out.

so as of now.... i dont know...

On the Class II, tapping either brake pedal or both will turn cruise off. You need to have your foot on the pedal/treadle when you do this or you will come to a screeching (your screeching) halt. It's the same as instantly lifting your foot off the pedal.

Just like people have to get used to using the clutch with the accelerator on a standard shift car, you have to learn a new driving habit on your tractor. The cruise control is nothing more than an electromagnet that holds the hydro pedal in the position where you set it. No magnet, no hold...SCREECH! :D

SO another thing i found odd. (i have no owners manual yet they are "in the mail") WHats the story with the cruse control? I have it, and it works, but i cant for the life of me figure out the proper procedure for turning it off. I would have thought tapping on the HST peddle would have disengaged it but that doesnt seem to work as i did more than just "tap" on the peddle and it did nothing.
So ive been reaching down and flicking the switch off, which works ok except 7/10 times i forget i need to be pressing on the HST peddle at the same time so i come to a lurching stop.

shurly this is not how this "system" is designed to work.

The owners manual for my 2005 TC33DA states that "To disengage the speed control, depress the bottom half of the swtich, or depress the left, or both brake pedals."
I can relate to you needing to remember to press the HST pedal when disengaging the swtich. Also I almost got into trouble when I absentmindedly depressed the clutch to disengage the cruise, as I approached neighbors fence. When I let out on the clutch, thinking the cruise was cancelled, things got VERRRRY interesting!

Just in case anybody is curious, my TN has a seat switch. You need to be in the seat to start it I think. Since you have to push the clutch I haven't ever tried it any other way. If you get off the seat with out setting the parking brake, the alarm goes off for a while, the engine keeps running. Same it you get off the seat with the PTO engaged.

I guess I'll post mine as well. My ex Nh 1920 you had to push the clutch all the way in to start, and be in neutral on tranny shifter.. but range selector could be in gear... no other safety's

My NH 7610s and ford 5000.. tranny and range selector in neutral to start.

Rest of my fords use tranny interlocked neutral /safe start switches.

Intersetingly enough.. my JD-B, IH-Cub, and AC-G have NO start SAFETY'S at ALL... only the fords have the safety... Guess someone was ahead of their time when it came to operator safety...

Well...the "jury" is in. I didn't realize the Class IIs don't have a seat switch.

Jim even some of the Class III machines like yours and mine don't have a seat switch either.

so if pressing the break disengages the cruise, then thers no way to brake stear on my tractor?!?!

unless i grow a third leg, or rig up some kind of stick that i can use to press the HST peddle down.

Yep!:( I guess you may be able to use differential braking to turn right (left pedal turns off cruise when pedals are split). That's just one of the "benefits" of owning a Class II. On our Class III hydros, the hydro pedals are on the right and the brake pedals are on the left (where god intended). You can even do differential braking/steering with either pedal while cruise is engaged.:D
