Seat time versus Chainsaw time

A bit older now,so seat time is more enjoyable. I do enjoy running my MS440 from time to time though.

I spend about 50 hours/week crammed into a cubicle in front of dual computer screens and a constantly ringing phone. I enjoy EVERY opportunity I get to be outside accomplishing something I can sit back afterwards and appreciate.

The real question is how many of us have gone out of their way to combine seat time with saw time? I know I have. If possible I'll use the backhoe to lift a log off the ground before blocking it up. Sure it's a little easier but there's that thrill of being able to pull a lever or two and lift a tree off the ground.

It depends alot on your background.

Spent alot of my younger years cutting and splitting to keep the house warm.

Now I burn pellets.

Anybody need a good splitting maul ?

I really enjoy cutting with my Stihl HT 101 polesaw; That sucker is really well built, impressive on power, sips fuel, great reach, light-weight for what it is, etc.

But using the polesaw is much more taxing (aka aerobic; aka tiring) than sitting in the shade on the tractor's cushy seat pushing & pulling power-assisted levers

Polesaw usage = 9.5 ... Tractor seat time = 10

The way I carry my polesaw (Also I have a roof now):

How many of us VALUE seat time? And I mean getting out there and running the tractor to do a job that may need to be done, but we are relatively happy piddling around with the tractor. But not as a paying job.
and
How many of us VALUE chainsaw time? Here I mean getting out and running the saws to do a job, but we enjoy the power of the saw as we make big pieces into little pieces.
and
Which would you rather do?

I like to do both. Today was a great day , I played with the tractor for about two hours and used my 660 to fell a few small trees. I think two hours of seat time is better than 2 hours of saw time.

Luckily when SWMBO sees me doing these things she seems to think I'm "working". When she sees the small jobs I do and compares it to the rates someone else would charge to do the same thing she's EXTREMELY agreeable with my tool purchases.

My chainsaw time is always combined with tractor time, as I use the tractor to haul the wood as I cut it. I love getting firewood. Then once it is back at the woodshed, it's splitter time, which is also fun.

Give me seat time any day. I really dislike running the chainsaw (particuarly felling trees) due to the danger.

About the only thing I like about the chainsaw is I'm not running over yellowjacket nests while using it. That's the main time I really hate to be on the tractor...you see that swarm come out from under that bushhog and you know your a** is grass.

I enjoy both, Saw time= free heat for the house. Seat time = A big grin on my face hauling out the firewood from the woods. Any time outside is a big + in my book.

Beefie

P.S. first post , really like this site.

I combine the two often. If the bush hog is on the tractor the saw is usually in the bucket.

Just had to post a picture of my two favorite toys. It's hard to say which I like to run more.
