I've had a problem off and on with the seatbelt retractor not allowing me to pull the belt out more than six inches. Lately it's stuck more often than it works. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, is it a "clean and rebuild item" or a "replace the unit" sort of thing?

Thanks in advance. Pete

Yes sir, I surely have had that same problem with my B2710. Twice in 2 years, I've just removed it from the tractor, opened it up, and cleaned it out good. It's really pretty simple; just one of those 15-20 minute nuisance jobs.

Pete,
I too had problems and all I did was spray WD40 inside than kept trying until it work good as new.
Also I did get ice and snow build up inside, and a little heat fix the problem.

I think the WD-40 might work in the northeast and may be a good idea, but I didn't put anything on mine because the problem was simply dust build up in it and I figure WD-40 would just attract more. So, I just cleaned mine out with compressed air (forgot to mention how I cleaned it in the previous post).

Probably a teeny weeny speck of debris lodged on the retractor gear assembly... /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Okay, as much as I hate anything requiring the use of metal tools in winter (I invariably forget I'm not in California anymore and put something frozen in my mouth -- my lips still have little scars in the shape of screw threads on them!), I'll take a look on my next day off.

Thanks. Pete

I have that same problem too on my B2710. I was ready to take it to the dealer for warranty repair. If it is an easy cleaning job, I will probably try that. I don't want to go to the dealer just to be told it was dirty... Wait, if a tractor works in the dirt, shouldn't the seatbelt be able to handle a little dirt?

I was lucky to find this old thread. This post is for the next guy.

It was as easy to fix as Bird described it in post#2. 14mm socket on two bolts, flip off the rubber cover and blow all the accumulations away. Here's mine removed from a Grand L 4330, still with some debris in one of the holes.
