I had the same dilemma about four years ago. Fortunately a family member had heard about and bought the Echo CS-310. I was amazed at how light it was. Not only is it great for limbing but great for kindling. I switch over to the Husky at about five inches for red oak.

Fair point. I often just limb with my 372 because there痴 not many of them. If there痴 a lot I値l use my 353. And the majority of my limbing is just cutting off stobs. The tree guys that most of my wood comes from are bad to cut them off 6 from the tree and I can稚 stand that.

I know a guy that also leaves those stubs. He likes them as "handles". They are just a pain in the A55.:irked:

If the round was small enough to lift they’re not that bad but they’re a real pain on big ones. The first problem is they’re hard on my truck bed. They dent the bed and dig ditches when you dump it. A 2000 pound log with more logs sitting on top of it is a huge point load sitting on a stub. Then they make rolling them to split later almost impossible. I usually cut them off before I move any logs. The tree guys can clean up the mess that way.

They are good up to about 2" max. IMHO. They can kick back far worse than the chainsaw attachment too. Gotta know which side to cut from.

My Stihl saw combination is 30cc, 50cc, 70cc. Also a Stihl combi with chainsaw but that is only for high limbs on standing trees.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up with a MS241. It was discontinued a while back, but I was able to find a new one. I think a 40cc will complements my 60cc well.

Worst case, I sell it!

The 241 is like my 025 except its easier to start, better balanced and has better AV. It's a sweet little saw. The chain (I think it's 63PM3) that came on mine is awesome. It cuts fast for the saw's size, and even though it's full chisel it holds an edge like semi chisel. It's safety chain but it will do bore cuts if you want. I think there is a non safety version too but on small stuff I find safety chain is less grabby so I often use it on small saws. I liked it so much I bought some for my other saws that use that chain.

I was going to get a MS241 and ditch my 30cc saw but they stopped offering them. I saw one on Craigslist but the guy seemed flaky.

Nothing wrong with a big saw small saw plan. I run a MS660 and a 066 red eye for 75% of my cutting and a Makita EA4300 with 16" bar for little stuff. That saw is really growing on me. It's very zippy and sips fuel compared to the 660s.

I too have 3 saws. 30cc 55cc and a 74cc. Both have there uses and I could do almost everything with my mid sized but I would hurt and so would it.

A chainsaw is one of those things you don't want to be worn out using. It only takes one mistake.
