I have a harbor freight one that was on sale and with a coupon......Needless to say its not that adjustable, the shadows on the trees set it off. We stopped using it since it was kind of like crying wolf all the time. I may mount it in the barn to see if it would alert if someone tried entering in there.

Eddie, i had gotten it orginally for just the driveway alert, I never knew when someone came up. Keep in mind, it will go off to coons, dogs or cows if they break the beam. Place it uup high enough to avoid small animals. I placed a piece of plywood in the fence opposite the beam to block to keep the cows from setting it off. Now my interest is in game cams with IR, but one can get "lotsa" different opinions which is best. The game cam has the same problem as driveway alert, the thieves can come when you arent home, but at least with the game cam, you might have pics. chuck

I have the Dakota unit with magnetic probe. I've had to send it back several times. They kept working with me to fix it. I think it's finally working but on some rare occasions, it might miss a car. Not sure why. It does pick up the kid mowing the strip along the driveway and my golf cart and atv. I think I had the probe buried to close to an electrical line for a while until I moved it.

I have had this Mier alarm in place on two drives for about 15 years with no problems. You can order the wire to what ever legnth you want and bury it with an edger or cable plow. The fancy ones will turn on lights and have extra relays. I have the DA-500 and it just sounds a loud buzzer. They didn't have the wireless one when I bought mine so I am not sure how it works.
I made my cable plow from an amonia applicator knife and pull it behind the tractor.

Edit: Mine does not appear to be working yet again. If you are looking for a reliable system, DA is NOT it.

There doesn't seem to be much of a difference in terms of quality etc. between the Dakota IR's, the Optex and "Driveway Informer". They're all good driveway sensors with small differences between them.
