Tractor
L3830 HST
As a write I am waiting for delivery of my new L3830 and it's killling me! It should be here by noon so I hope to be riding...uh I mean working all weekend! One question I have is that the tractor will initially be kept at the construction site where my home is being built and since no one is around it could just walk off as they say. Any hints on security measures that I could take? Someone had suggested removing some fuses and that sounds good but I was wondering if you guys would have any other suggestions.

Thanks,
Bodie

This has come up before and I don't remember anyone having an air-tight solution...

I would suggest first that you make sure you have insurance against theft.

Others have suggested hiding the tractor somehow. If a thief does not see it he will not know to come steal it.

I am sure others can give better advice, but at least this is a start... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There was a discussion of this about 6 months ago in This thread

Some key suggestions:

"Park the tractor hidden out of sight as much as possible and then turn the steering to one extreme or the other prefereably turned towards something immovable."

"loop a rather significant coiled cable around the steering wheel and the nearest significant part of the front end loader. I also use at least a five pin lock."

"a hidden switch or something really simple that cripples the tractor works wonders"

"take the battery out"

etc.....

(I just didn't want to say "Do a search") /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Not in any particular order.......

1. Chain a mean rotweiler to the seat.
2. Tarp it in the trees, so it doesn't look like a tractor.
3. If you're really ****, you could remove the back wheels.
4. Use the biggest chain and padlock you can carry, and chain it to something immobile and cannot be cut down.
5. Put it under a giant streetlight.
6. Park something immobile behind and in front of it.
7. More insurance.
8. Meet your neighbors and ask their help.
9. Hire a security patrol--or speak with your county sheriff.
10. Sleep there yourself...............
11. Invest in a trailer and haul it home with you. I'd not want to leave mine unattended in a remote place.
12. Consider the odds--lot of tractors and you only have one, so maybe yours is ok.

I read recently where a family found an idealic site in the remote woods in northern CA. Built a modular home,
dug a 650' deep well, and it was their summer home. They were absent a couple of months, and came back to find
only the concrete pad! Thieve took the house, the possession, the well pump (650' deep!), and even tires off
a non-running pickup! Scary!

Best wishes to you.

Unplug one of the safety interlock switches?

   / Security Question #6
There is only one way to be bure it is safe and that is to buy a trailer
and haul it. A torch will cut any cable or chain quickly, and a shot of
nigrion(sp) will make any lock shatter from a good hammer blow. Loading a disabled
tractor, even with some or even all the tires removed is not to hard if you have a tiltbed trailer and a
wrecnch or even a chain hoist to pull it on the trailer.
You could ask one of the other tractor owners on your road to let you park it at their home
orbuy a shipping container to store it in. This would give you a place to keep it later also.

Good luck and hve fun with your new toy, I mean tool.

A contractor once left his Case bulldozer overnight at our house, so, being a normal, curious kind of guy, I climbed aboard to check it out. *Everything* on that machine was locked. Folding metal cages, padlocked over the entire instrument panel, locks on the access to the engine area, etc., etc. Wish we could do that, but with a plastic tractor there's only so much a locking plate will accomplish. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Huh?

Ron,

Not trying to be difficult, but if something is immobile, how do you park it behind or in front of something else?

And even Containers can get loaded. WOW, if they want it bad enough, its theirs.

I think some great suggestions are getting to know your neighbors, a trailor and LOTS of insurance.
